Keeping your word means absolutely nothing when you're dealing with the world's largest criminal organization (US).
On one hand, he helped free an individual who's only *real* wrongdoing was revealing corruption (remember now, truth is treason in an empire of lies!), and on the other, he's able to continue escaping the grip of a murderous, corrupt organization.
