    LOL. I remember my first Yahoo listing and how excited I was. What did that cost? $400?

        Only if you weren't grandfathered in. We had our listings there in 1997 or 98, I forget, and were just grandfathered in after that.

        That said, my favorite engine of them all was Infoseek, followed closely by Alta Vista. Infoseek were the first company I spoke with who explained to me what their crawler was specifically looking for in determining rankings. Alta Visa, owned by DEC, were by far the hardest to reach, but the techs were quite willing to speak candidly as well.
