Most of what I've read here are people go there for cheap living and lots of sex. That's fine, but a few questions came to mind...

Does anybody live there just to enjoy life? I wonder what's that like, and how you deal with the Visa.

How about just to travel, anybody go there just to vacation as a couple or something?

I've been there with my wife. A lot of parts reminds us of the Philippines. I particularly enjoyed the temples, open river markets, and the FOOD. Thai cuisine is amazing. Also, clothing and food there is cheaper than in the Philippines. My wife keeps bugging me for us to go back. Maybe for Christmas, I'm not sure.

I am not particularly a fan of any Asian cuisine, however Thai is certainly one of the better in my opinion.

man, i'm guessing u had some bad experiences. but i can assure u, food in ACTUAL thai restaurants are so good u will never forget them.
Even in the road side stalls, as long as you know what stuffs to choose u'll not go wrong. Food in S-E-Asia is nice, especially in malaysia and singapore where u can get crusines from all over the world.

There's a few restaurants i have in mind that I can introduce you to in malaysia/singapore IF you ever try to step out of ur perceived "bad food in SEAsia" thinking.

BTW, There's a point i'd like to make, that is in USA/CANADA, SO CALLED CHINESE FOOD IS NOT ACTUAL CHINESE FOOD! I've been there and done it. so yeah, its not chinese food. for some real chinese restaurants, go to malaysia or singapore. Don't understand how those food gets categorised as chinese. those are food meant for rats.

Probably that's the case for thai food too, and that's why you had some bad experiences. Try it originally from the source, not some repackaged and remodelled exported food that originated from some US factory.

Thai food, and SE-Asian food is good.

I was traveling around asia last summer. And yes, Thai food is FUCKING GREAT! Indonesian food is good too. Not as good as Japanese (my favorite) but still very good... MMmmmmmm. I miss it a lot.

Go to Samui, Phi-Phi and maybe Phuket. Go North if you want to see lots of temples.. go to Cambodia, lao.. stay the fuck away from Vietnam.

Thailand has world class diving and nightlife. It's not just about sex, though stats say 1 out of 5 tourists that come to Thailand is a sex tourist.

The beaches are beautiful, plenty of activities if you are an outdoors type. Easy to come here and not deal with the sex scene. Though cheap, hot, young pussy really helps this place look that much better.

u took this out of context buddy, he's been in Japan, no arguing that coming from Japan and Hong Kong to the hustle and bustle of Bangkok is going to be a let down in some ways. Same with Manila.

I personally think metro wise, Bangkok is nicer than Manila save for the fact that I can't stand it since I don't speak Thai.

koh samui for part of my honeymoon, we rented this villa on the beach with a chef and maid service plus a driver for a week and just relaxed. And it was cheaper then our onsen stay in Japan for 4 nights (izu biwa) and cheaper then shangri la in singapore for a week.

Plus it was beautiful there. Thai massage every morning on the beach in a little hut with my wife for $10 (no happy ending) and a lot of just relaxing

Yeah, exactly. I was telling my wife I'd like to check out Vietnam or Angkor Wat. I've had Vietnamese cuisine--some good stuff like pho and imperial rolls (clear wrapper egg roll). Then swing back to Thailand for some good food. Nothing like authentic Thai cuisine.

Do you know where the Jumbo Clown Room on Hollywood Blvd is? Try the Thai restaurant right next door to it, (if it's still there). Amazing food and the waitresses are fucking hot. Always packed. I used to eat there all the time when I had my office in Crossroads of the World.

Thailand is the perfect place to relax. As for going there without the sex, well that might be easier said than done. If going as a couple, make sure your wife or girlfriend has a high tolerance threshold before entering danger zones. Thailand has been responsible for the destruction of many happy relationships.

I came out here the first time almost 11 years ago as a tourist for all of the reasons guys usually come out here. I fell in love with not only the women, but the culture, the people, the food, the weather, I could go on and on. I've now lived here half the year for almost 3 years and love it. I'm marrying a Thai woman in January.

As for the visa situation, coming here as a tourist isn't a problem. You get a visa on arrival for 30 days. Longer visas either have to be arranged with the embassy or you can leave the country and come back in and get another 30 days. I think the new rules say you can only do this once or twice now. I am now on a retirement visa, since I qualified a year ago at the age of 50. Otherwise you need a work permit to stay in the country for any length of time or you can marry a Thai and stay.

This is a great place to visit and a better place to stay. It's a great place to come as a couple. The one piece of advice I would give you is to spend more time in Bangkok then your travel agent suggests. It's the best city in the world in my opinion. And there are many other great spots to visit, the islands, the north, etc.

I know there are lots of incredible tourist attractions in Thailand such as the temples for example... but I think a lot of men, not ALL but A LOT do go to Thailand for sex... Even Pornwolf agrees. It's known as a sex vacation destination even though I am sure Thailand has a lot more to offer...

I haven't been to Thailand but I've been to the Netherlands and I know the Netherlands has a lot of great things to do; you could visit the Van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum, take cool boat trips in the canal, check out the windmills, tulips, quaint little towns. But when guys go to Amsterdam the first thing that pops in my head is they are going there for the "Red Light District".... I can't help but think that.
