I used Joomla! for my site. Use the newer version 1.57 and keeps it updated.

I'm using joomla on mmy non adult projects.
Some projects are "news sites" , some are "virtual communities"

So joomla is rather flexible cms.

There are problems with security, mainly in 3d parties components

I use Joomla, and it has given me some grief from time to time, but it is a VERY flexible open source CMS.

Sometimes it can be challenging to figure out the bugs, and since there's no one to really call and complain to, you just have to grin and bear it and do it yourself. But hey, it's free

The thing that really bothers me is security on it. Since it is an open source cms the potential is there for people who know the exploits to really fuck your day up. Even if you are keeping up with the patches and updates for the script there is always more risk when using one of these out-of-the-box cms systems. But I guess that is really a concern for any CMS, non open source or custom built....

Seems solid enough to use for my purposes for the time being though. Thanks for all the input guys.

                        Sup!

We use Joomla for about a year now for our mag/blog

Security wise we got hacked once on an older version. There was some vulnerability with the template we were using and with the gallery software.

In general I would just make sure to keep up to date on software updates and exploits and always check forums about plugins/modules before installing it.

I'm actually thinking of moving to Wordpress though, but still on the fence.

In general if you want to get something up fast that looks good, Joomla is good.

Wordpress is the way to go. Joomla has a steep learning curve.

My honest opinion is Joomla is slow, bloated, and really annoying to learn. That was my experience each time I tried it out. Others love it, so whatever. Doesn't hurt to try it.

I use Joomla with a good # of non-adult sites I've designed. It's simple and many of the sites look amazing if you find a good template.

I would highly suggest using it to make a quick affiliate site or a blog site. It is incredibly easy to update, and there are thousands of plugins that make coding simple (the SEO plugins are a must).

As for running a member pay based site... this would prove to be pretty tricky. It is by no means impossible at all, but Joomla has many inherent security flaws. The most glaring would be the "granting of access levels" within the management system.

Definitely give it a try though, if you do get the hang of it I'm sure you'll find plenty of uses for it in the future.
