    Electricity bill

My proprietor showed me the last 2 month electricity bill of my apartment and I apparently doubled the amount of kWh that I did in the previous 2 months.

    (1610 kWh from 2002/04/25 to 2002/06/25)
    (3670 kWh [!!!] from 2002/06/25 to 2002/08/28)

That seems like total bullshit to me since I left for 2 weeks and was always out of town during the summer, riding on my harley.

The only special thing using electricity 24/24 is my Desktop Computer... 300watt Power Supply. How do you calculate how much this computer burn in a month if it's ON 24/24?

Where do you live? The cost of electricity in California is on the rise, but it has not doubled yet from this time last year. I would say approximately a 40% increase from this time last year. It seems though that each bill is alittle higher than the previous one, so I don't know what it is going to level out at. What do others of you have to say that live in California?

If my calculations are correct your PC would use 2592kwH / year if it always used the full 300W which it doesn't. It probably uses around 150-200W on average if it's on 24/7.

Yeah exactly... kWh per month are calculated like this :

                200 watt X 24 hrs X 30 days / 1000

so within 2 months the computer only use 144 x 2 = 288 kWh... blah they so fucked up.

First off, theres NO way your computer uses even near 200W. If it did, you'd need a some not-yet-developed heatsink/fan. Anyway, a power supply comes in RMS or root mean squared power. To get to the point, assuming you have the fastest cpu there is...the athlon 2200+ and assuming you're not running seti@home (100% cpu load), AND that yoru monitor is off, the max cpu power is about 65w. Assuming your HD(s) are in standby, thats 1W and running your mobo etc your total is prolly around 80 to 85 watts, if you're running a 2200+

                  85W * ~720h/mo = 61.2 kW hours, which is like $6 to $8 worth of electricity MAX.

Check your fridge tho. Those puppies use a ton of power in the hot summer months.
