    Laptops! Which one?

Which laptop out there is the one to buy? I wouldn't be using this laptop for anything special like video editing, etc, etc. I'm only interested in surfing the web, email and IM communication.
I'm tired of my 2003 toshiba Satillite A40/A45 series...any suggestions?

I was looking at this Acer here, but the video card really blows.

The reviews seemed on the positive side comparing the price and what is included in this package.

Get a Macbook. Adium is the best IM client ever. So you can do pretty much everything you can on a PC on a Mac but ... better .... !

Yup. Apple all the way. I like the small aluminum MacBook, myself. Decent performance, moderate pricing, super-durable case, and a nice small screen so it's portable and your battery lasts eleventy billion minutes. If it's going to be more of a replacement, though, go 15" MacBook Pro.

For PCs, I like Thinkpads. Not flashy, but durable, with good support.

All laptops suck now that they're loading with Vista.

We picked up a new Acer aspire not long ago and its already collectin' dust next to me in the office. Instead, I upgraded my older Toshiba satellite with more ram (still runnin' XP).

I've been happy with HP for the last couple of laptops I've owned

agree with the Vista comment though, I would probably spend the extra $89 to get XP on it

the nice thing with the HP's is they have all the ports you could ever need, whereas most of the other brands don't

I have never owned an apple, however after 10 years of dealing with Microsoft and such my next purchase will be an Apple for sure!

Most people that complain about Vista on their computers is because they are trying to run it with 2 gig of ram and don't take the little bit of time to change some settings that make it run better.

I've been using an Asus laptop for the past couple of years and still dig it. I'm running kubuntu with sun's virtual box for windows if I need it.

I wasn't looking to buy a new one but went window shopping tonight and found some new models out:
                              http://www.agearnotebooks.com/agear-new.html
                              and would get one again.

I've been looking at cheap laptops too lately. If you're just going to use it for surfing and shit I think screen size and the KEYBOARD should be your main concerns. You can always get an external mouse if you dont get along w/ the touchpad but the keyboard aint going nowhere without a cheesy solution. Also most laptops you can downgrade to XP providing there are drivers for all the components so don't let OS be an issue. Weight, optical drives, hard drive storage and even processor are pointless to me as my desktop comp is my main machine so I do everything that means anything on it.

Here's the one I was looking at just tonight:

                                http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834115504

15.4 screen, 3GB ram, 160GB, CD/DVD writer etc. As a bonus it has a webcam, is lightweight and has pretty good battery life. Shit vid card but you have to spend quite a bit to get something decent in a laptop and I dont see much point in gaming on a laptop anyway. Not sure about the keyboard on this one but my current desktop kb is simlar to a laptop kb so I'm not to worried about it.

PS: Asus has always made kickass motherboards.. I have never heard anything about their laptop stability/reliability or the quality of their support but as far as I know they're a pretty good company and I have to assume their laptops are on par w/ their motherboards.
Just my and food for thought...

I have had horrible luck with Asus mobo's lately. My man builds systems for his job, and he's had to RMA five boards just in the last year. Asus may have been good at one time but... I personally won't ever buy one of their boards again.
