Imagine if Russia planned to build an anti-missile system in Mexico sitting right across from the USA border. We would have already attacked them.
Remember when they were sending missiles to Cuba and we almost went to war with them? They invaded our personal space and we found it to be a threat, the same as they are threatened now because we are in their personal space putting up an anti-missile system that can strike down THEIR missiles.

If you want the real truth on international events, you need to turn off your American media and look outside of your country for true news. Look at how the rest of the world reports the news and you will get a better idea of what's really going on.

We are gong to have to agree to agree on this. The Russians don't have much choice but to respond to such an aggressive move from the US. I think the US is making the correct move to place the missiles (to counteract Iran), but the Russians don't have much choice but to respond or else look helpless. Putin certainly knows this. Of course Obama is so far out of his league when it comes to a geopolitical chess match with Putin that it would be funny if it was not so dangerous.

You make a good point that Iran currently poses no threat to Europe. The missile defense system is primarily symbolic as an expression of US power in the region. But it would also be naive to assume the Iranians are standing still and are not developing a longer range ballistic missile along with their nuclear program. The Iranians have long stated their intention to have long range nuclear ballistic missile capability and they are doing everything they can to archive that as quickly as possible. Only the most naive apologist or a propagandist would try to suggest otherwise (which one are you Buzzy?).
At the same time it is perfectly understandable how an expression of US power in Poland would upset the Russians. Putin has no choice but to make some kind of symbolic response.бабки, шлюхи, силаComment

Can you blame the Iranians for wanting to advance their weaponary when they are weekly threatened by not only Israel but the USA also of a blitz on their country. Regardless what Ahmadinejad said about wiping the Israeli regime off the map, it dosen't add up to the countless times that the USA and Israel have threatened it.
The only reason the Zionist hawks are calling for Iran to be bombed is because they are a growing power, and soon enough they will be a threat to Israels military domination over the region, Israel can't stand the fact of not being the only total power in the region.
But the problem is...i think the Israelis have left it too late this time. An Attack on Iran now, rather than 6 years ago would equal devistating consequences for Israel and even it's existance. Obama 'to honour' missile plans
US President-elect Barack Obama will go ahead with plans to build part of a controversial missile defence system on Polish soil, Poland has announced.
President Lech Kaczynski's office said the pledge was made during a telephone conversation between the two men.
Russia opposes the US plans, and early this week said it planned to deploy missiles on Poland's border and electronically jam the US system.
This is the first signal that Mr Obama plans to continue George Bush's policy.
During the US election campaign, Mr Obama said he wanted to review the system to build a missile defence system in central Europe to ensure it would be effective and would not target Russia.
Moscow says the plan to locate 10 interceptor missiles in northern Poland and a tracking radar in the Czech Republic will do exactly that.
In his first state of the nation address earlier this week, Russian President Dmitri Medvedev said Moscow would neutralise the system by deploying short-range missiles in its western enclave of Kaliningrad on Poland's border.
The US military insists the shield is incapable of destroying Russian rockets and is designed solely to knock down long-range missiles fired from the Middle East.

Of course I don't blame the Iranians for wanting to have nuclear weapons and long range missile delivery systems. It would vastly increase their power in the region and their bargaining power worldwide. At the same time I don't blame the US, the Israelis and the Saudis from wanting to stop them. The US is fighting a proxy war with Iran in Iraq as we speak. The Israelis have been fighting a proxy war with Iran (through Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad) for a very long time. The Saudi leadership fears Iranian and Shia domination in the region. They all have very good reasons to fear Iran going nuclear.
Like many conflicts there are many sides and many interested parties. As an American I support the US and Israel in this conflict. You support Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, etc. along with many others who feel the same. Obviously Iran going nuclear will be a huge victory (both politically and strategically) for militant Islam while at the same time represent a huge setback for the Western interests which are are battling against it.
