I drove by a house yesterday, and they must have had a dozen 'vote yes on 8' signs up, and one little Mccain sign.... it had me thinking, what kind of person makes opposing gay marriage their most important cause that they plaster their whole yard with signs like that
they must be really really intolerant to the core to worry so much about what other people that want to marry themselves do compared to the reality of the real problems in the world

You mean like voting for the Republican ticket this time too?
I imagine plenty in this biz would vote yes on 8 just like they will vote for Mccain/Palin. I see plenty of people who go out of their way to bash gays etc. The business has very little to do with acceptance.Comment

In florida it's Amendment No 2.
Even though florida has it built into the constitution that marriage is between a men and women. This Amendment prevents anyone from haveing any type of civil union.
So a men and a women who simply want to have a contract between each other, but don't want to get married, won't be able too.

Why can't we have white pride and "normal" people parades where we display our pride for being white and straight? Why would I get beat by blacks and gays if I did that?
No on 8, so they can stop parading or I can start. Equal = EVERYONE can do it.Comment

When I saw some of their TV ads with the children in them, it made me sick to my fucking stomach.
The problem is not enough people take voting seriously, while all the religious right come out in droves.Comment

I am voting yes because I have a bunch of gay friends and I hate weddings.Comment

This sort of statement always reminds me of children when they complain about Father's Day and Mother's Day and say "Why isn't there a KIDS DAY??" And then mom and dad say : "Every day is kids day".
I get why some in a despised/opressed/unpopular minority might want a parade as a "fuck you" but even the people that complain about the lack of a straight parade from some innate sense of unfairness at the inability to stand on a float in backless chaps wouldn't actually WANT to be in it if there actually was one I suspect.
Not really worth pointing out I guess, but i've just never "got" that... Imagine if you had that little in the way of personal achievements you had the desire to celebrate the thing you're most proud of - being average. Dunno.. maybe it says something about my ego/vanity.Comment
-
Who says you can't? I guess you straights just aren't proud enough to get together to organize it...

I am definitely voting NO on prop 8, and urging everyone i know to vote no as well. So many are uneducated to the actual facts of the prop, its sad theyre voting yes on something they dont even understand.Comment

I already voted no. I'm sick over this ballot initiative. My No on 8 sign has been stolen off my lawn 4 times. It's disgusting. The Yes on 8 crew have been demonstrating all over Sacramento in droves. Your ideal set has to be so far from mine if you're publicly proud and ready to stand up as intolerant and discriminatory. Aren't those BAD qualities?

Absolute equality or bust. Don't tell me for half a fucking second there wouldn't be protests if there was a "Straight and Proud" parade.
A black president and yes on gay marriage, now I can have white straight parades. And yes I will get killed for doing it.Comment

You should see how it is by my house.. I liv ein the most conservative white republican area of SoCal, and I am surrounded by churches.. Honestly I dont think us gays would care if you had straight pride.... We dont think about your sexuality half as much as you guys think of ours... and no gay is going to kill you.. As for white pride ... i cant speak to that never felt the need....Comment

Which area? I am in the Laguna area - children 6-17 are parading around with Yes signs. I politely let the adult on duty know that he is sick for pushing agendas using children.Comment

I think it would be met with an almost universal yawn and some derision... Somehow I don't think you'd be seen as some Che Guevera guerilla battling for the forces of mediocrity and worthy of being taken out. You'd more likely be seen as just sad in a "Aren't there some Seinfeld re-runs on that would be a better use of your time?" way.
You should do it. It would be funny seeing no one give a shit.Comment

if there wasn't a democratic house and senate, i would vote Obama. doesn't matter what anyone says about the way i vote or what they think of me for my choices, they are mine

You're spot on, I'm not saying anyone would care. You're completely correct. I'm just making an absolutely irrelevant point that comes together with this statement:I think it would be met with an almost universal yawn and some derision... I think those of us who UNDERSTAND equality find that we don't CARE enough to make a stink out of things. I think No on 8 will pass easily because frankly... no one cares what people do with their beliefs. The majority I think are like this.Comment
-
Damn straight. Who you vote for is your business. People on here need to learn to respect personal choices.Comment
-
not at all.
The reason white pride and straight pride parades would be seen as inflammatory is that the white and straight populations have been in the position of power all along. Blacks and gays are the ones who have been mistreated.
Having a segment that has traditionally been the oppressor parade around and flaunt a superior position not something to be proud about.Comment

I think there are enough ignorant, fear-mongering rabble to vote with their knee-jerk emotions rather than their brains.
I hope I'm wrong, but I see this getting passed by about 60%.Comment

I kinda just don't really get the issue at all. My marriage is threatened about 500 times more by straight women and me not putting dirty clothes in the laundry basket than it is by gay marriage.
I was going to say that a straight parade might work because men never pass up the chance to see boobies, whether it's at mardi gras, the new zealand boobs on bikes parade, or even the topless lesbians at gay pride parades.. But half the female porn stars you'd use as attractions do girl-on-girl so it's kinda like shooting yourself in the foot.Comment

I agree with you 100% that most people just don't care either way on this issue. Problem is, a lot of people who don't care about this don't care about anything else, so they don't vote. You know who cares enough to vote? Religious conservatives who feel passionately that if 4 and 8 don't pass we're all going to hell. You're spot on, I'm not saying anyone would care. We have to outnumber them, and most of us don't care nearly as much because we don't think it's life or death like they do. (Soul to Heaven, or Soul to Hell.)
