My Spine is Crooked from having big boobs and working online!

I've been having headaches and neck aches lately so I finally went to see a specialist, who did a series of tests on my back, neck and skeleton in general.

The results came back saying that my spine is shaped like a letter "S" laterally, and my neck is inclined to the front. In addition to that, my right shoulder is lower than my left one, and the right side of my body weighs 15 lbs more than its left counterpart! Yikes!

The news were not as terrible as the reasons why:
1- my boobs are too big for my body.
2- I sit in front of my computer 8 to 10 hours a day.

I'm proud of my "boobage" and I make my living on my computer. So, what the hell am I going to do? Anybody has any input, or any idea how to correct this, other than getting a breast reduction and changing careers?

She didnt say one of her breasts weighed 15 pounds more, she said on half of her body weighed 15 pounds more. They weigh you on 2 seperate scales to get that reading, and with a curved spine its easily possible for this to happen.

well at least you dont' have scoliosis like I do!

u need to get in the gym and build up your back muscles to strengthen them. I have the same problem and now have a sciatica problem as a result.

Oh gosh, sounds like the same issue I have!

My girlfriend a hair dresser got a breast reduction and it looked horrible and major pain, infact she had to be sent back into surgery from the recovery room, because of more bleeding.

Here's my plan, my mom somewhere finds these little back pillows...right where your lower back is, to make u sit up straight. I will find one and use it while working. I'm going to try out some yoga and lifting some weights to build up my back muscles.

I will also be going to see the doctor as well, I have a sharp burning pain under my shoulder on the left side, I call it a pinched nerve, and my husband laughs at me.
Whatever it is, is drives me insane when it's hurting. When it flairs up, there's a knot.

                                  Good Luck!!

Work your low back, shoulders and abs, this will help. A strong stomach can help take weight off the back. This is what my chiro told me when I was having some back pain.

ouch, no! One side of my body weighs 15 lbs more than the other side of my body. It's because of the curvature of my spice. My boobs are the same size.

I was just talking to my mom about it (she's a pediatrician, and although I'm not 15 anymore, she's still a doctor, so she knows her stuff), and she says that YES, working my back muscles is the only way to correct this problem without having surgery. I asked her about the little back pillows and she said that they're a great idea to avoid lower back pain, since they offer support to that area.
                                              So, let's hit the gym!

I actually have pretty much the exact same problem and have been getting treatment for it. First off, a good chiropractor will help. Make sure that they put together a treatment plan for you which includes pain relief and correction as well as giving you proper exercises for muscle building.

Second of all, losing weight in the mid section is imperative. Any extra weight carried around your abs and midsection puts a LOT of extgra strain on the lower back causing the curvature to increase even more. I lost 45 lbs in the last year and although it was a very painful adjustment for my body, I am able to work on the spine a lot more now than I could before. I even have a bow in my sternum from bad posture at the computer and breasts that were too large for my frame.

Third of all, yoga is very good for you. I would not recommend anything strenuous like bikram etc (I do kundalini yoga). Meditating is not only good for the mind and soul its also helpful in building those back muscles. Sitting cross legged and taking deep breaths helps while keeping your spine straight is great. ALthough it will initially put more strain on your mid back for a while, it will be worth it in the end. Use moist heat packs on your back as needed. Because of hte increased curvature in the lower spine, be careful when doing back bends or certain poses like cobra that will increase the pain in your lower back. Sometimes it helps to just sit those out and do long deep breaths instead.

Fourth of all, ergonomics for your workstation. Make sure you have a good chair with lumbar support, tilt it forward if you can, it will force you to sit up straighter. Be aware of your body and posture. Tuck your pelvis in and make sure your feet are flat on the ground. Make sure your monitor is high enough for your neck to stay back and not hunched forward. AVOID WORKING USING THE LAPTOP SCREEN!!

Last but not least, any exercises that build your abs, shoulders, and back are helpful. Don't strain yourself too much. Pay attention to your form so that you don't hurt yourself. Its best to get exercises from a chiropractor or a knowledgeable trainer.

Wish you the best of luck.

Chiropractors have their uses, but many of them will squawk about being able to fix a curvature in the spine when the fact is you would have to see them for years to even have a shot at reaching such a goal and even then there are no quarantees of success. I know, I've gone through this...

In my early teens I was diagnosed with scholiosis. I had an "S" curve, and at it's worst point was 45 degrees curved, which is quite severe. When I was 16 I had to have a spinal fusion done. I had to wear a body cast for 6 months prior, then the surgery where they fused 4 vertebrae, then 9 more months of bodycast.

This is nothing to fuck around with, messing with chiropractors etc. Go see a specialist.

You are right. I had already seen orthopedic doctors and have 3 herniated discs. Spinal surgery is no joke and would be a last resort, particularly for spinal curvatures that are more or less a product of poor posture. Scoliosis is usually congenital or hereditary while loss of curvature in neck/increased curvature in lower back is usually a functional issue and not structural.

Accidents can definitely aggravate the issue but these issues will continue to be on the rise since computer work is so much more common now than it was 20 years ago.

I mean I know I sometimes slump or lean on way when working so I think thats more of the reason. As for teh 15# difference, everyones bod has a larger side. Its usually the side that is less dominant. That means you are right handed I take it?

Id try and ake an effort to get up and move around every hour and also look into a new office chair and make sure that your PC / Keyboard ? monitor s placed for ideal posture.

If you did, run for the hills and see a real doctor, because IMHO chiropractors are super shady and will never tell anyone that everything is fine. Your "diagnosis" sounds like the exact diagnosis a friend of mine received when she went to the chiropractor. However, after receiving the diagnosis, she went back to the same chiropractor for a follow-up visit, and she overhead him saying the exact same thing, verbatin, to another patient. He gives a total canned response for every patient...

Babe I have the same problem. Scoliosis.. Its a bitch. I am supposed to have surgery but the risks are so high and I am postponing it as long as possible. In the mean time, my doc prescribes me painkillers and muscle relaxers.
It wont "fix" the problem, but it sure as hell makes it a lot less painful and sometimes *euphoric* lol
Seriously though, I have had it for 10 years now and since I was done growing then and am assuming you are now, back braces are useless, breast reduction wont correct the problem (the damage has already been done) and surgery is def. a LAST RESORT...

Just get a good doc and massage therapist!

Every 2 weeks and it cuts down on the back aches and migraines I have gotten since I was 8. Just make sure you find a doctor that works with you. I get heat therapy, massage, stretching and then adjustment. Its great and feels as good as going to a spa!

My monitor is way too low (I just lifted it about 7 inches, but it's still low compared to my line of sight); my feet are always propped on a small bench under my computer desk, and my chair is way too far away from my monitor. I'm working on correcting those right now. After that, comes the exercising.

I'm planning on going this weekend to enroll on a yoga class, and I will check out tai chi as well.
