if Hillary drops out, then obviously Hillary won't win, so anyone who bet for her is shit out of luck... bets for Trump wouldn't be effected in any way...

Not so sure. Lets say in sporting events, boxing etc, if boxer drops out and is switched, all bets are canceled.
Of course this is a bit different for various reasons (it is technically not 1 on 1 for example) so that is why I am wondering.
I was semi pro betting guy back in the day so I am not talking out of the sky.

I think this scenario is more like picking who will win the superbowl this season... if for some reason Chicago Bears "drop out", then obviously they won't win, and so anyone who bet for them is shit out of luck...
