Finders fee to someone who can refer me to a dependable programmer

So the last 2 months I have been through 5 programmers. One I found was decent but did not know some of the language that I needed done. Just recently I thought I had found a good one but 3 weeks later he is still slacking on work.

I am willing to pay a finders fee apon confirmation that the programmer will actually do work. I would also be willing to give the a bonus to the programmer.

Need someone to do projects on a regular basis. Possible full time long term work from posistion with excellent pay for the right person.

    Lanuages - Smarty, Ajax, PHP.
    Bonus - HTML, Photoshop, CSS

            Carol Prime is a douche.

That aside, don't use GFY to find programmers.

                WTF?

Why do people put the word "simple" in the same line as the word "code" in these situations? That's as dumb as trying to tell a designer you want a "simple design".

No wonder there's so many disagreements; people have no clue how to communicate or their expectations are so far from the truth no one can be satisfied.

                Sorry... I'll </rant> now.

                    hehe good luck...

Developers are probably the single hardest staffing need to fill in the business.

I've found you either get someone who knows their shit, but tends to work either very slow or never complete the "boring" parts of a project. Also known as the flakey type.

Or, you get someone who can speed through stuff, but delivers absolute crap.

luckily, I do have a couple internal folks who are decent. But I could use about 2-3 more full time guys. I've honestly stopped actively looking - if one happens to fall in my lap through referrals and/or contract work done well, then bonus!

thats because it seems simple to the person who doesn't know how to code.

                          Bump

On a side note, this should be pretty easy shoes to fill, fellas. Smarty, Ajax, PHP? They all go in hand and hand. I've integrated all of them together without issues, and if you don't know smarty, it's pretty simple to pickup.

Ajax, well, there are libraries for that - I personally use both JQuery and Prototype, and anyone serious about Ajax has used them in one application or another.

Maybe you aren't addressing your specific needs to them clear enough. Some guys will take their time because they don't know about existing frameworks or libraries that can make the job much easier and faster. And when you push it on them later, and they don't know it, there's the learning curve. I reccomend looking for Developers that know specific things like JQuery or Prototype, some sort of mvc framework, or a framework period, and have knowledge of smarty and anything else you desire.

Just some advice ;) Good luck in your search!

Hi ztik, I got someone for you. He's very reliable, used him on a couple of projects with good results, except that he wont do full time but will accept regular projects -so he says. Expert on

                                Lanuages - Smarty, Ajax, PHP.
                                Bonus - HTML, CSS

Will do basic photoshop stuff but claims not to be anywhere near being an expert.

Hit him up on yahoo IM. His ID is: [email protected]

smarty sucks LOL never really found much need to use it... slows me down too much in development. If the day comes when I'm "done" adding features to my script then and only then will I convert my templates to it. It simply slows development down too much.

..how? You write an extending class, make some very basic templates, and just use it.

I rarely take coding work from the industry now because no one has realistic expectations. People seem to think you can have very complex stuff built very quickly and for no money without having any ability to communicate what is needed or to measure what is good and what is not, and requirement creep is out of control as well.

I make 10 to 100x as much money doing the same work for real mainstream businesses.

I have learned quite a bit after doing work for so many people on this board. My conclusion is most will call you flaky for almost any reason. Here is my list of why it's hard to find a "good" programmer. (I use the term good loosely).

                                                                1. You have a small budget.
                                                                2. You fail at writing spec sheets/Bad communication.
                                                                3. You support feature creep (like to add features along the way).
                                                                4. You rush to have it done now.
                                                                5. You think the code is simple and shouldn't take long (then why are you hiring us?)

You think it's hard finding a programmer? Try finding a client that can match this criteria and I will give YOU a finders fee.
