    Abandoned Olympic venues

    I found this amazing... What happens to Olympic facilities after the Olympics? When I was a kid we used to go to the Olympic stadium in Montreal but it seems not all countries can afford to keep them open after the Olympics have left town....

    The pictures are amazing.

      95% of those pics/venues were in war torn Sarajevo, and extremely broke, on the verge of collapse Greece. The remaining were from 1936 Berlin.

      Gotta imagine there are more venues than that, abandoned.

              Up here, Montreal Canada hosted the Olympics in 1976. The Olympic Stadium and Village are still standing and in great shape.



              The stadium has a retractable roof that never really worked right, and a big piece of cement from the stadium fell about 10 years ago or something. The village has been turned into apartments. It's really quite a beautiful area.

                      this is sadly why some of the Olympic events also get pushed to the side, funding for training is only approved in the UK with gold medal wins... no win, no funding for TeamGB

                          I notice these images are all of Sarajevo, Berlin or Greece, I'd hope many other countries have allowed this to happen to their Stadiums

                              The reality is that just like with war...there is a lot of money to be made hosting this giant clusterfuck and it's not all done legally...in fact, corruption from the construction of the venues through the games are is full of corruption.

                              It's sick and a waste of resources.

                              The "athletes" are freaks created in lab/gyms and do not represent their countries or even most of the human race for that matter, making the event even less about countries.

                              I say ditch the abused and clearly valueless 4 year event!

                                      My parents used to take me when I was a kid... It was beautiful really.

                                          Bothersome - our local city hired a Quebec contracter, Pomerleau - to build a $50mil bridge across the old canal...and already they've spent $90mil (almost double the budget)...to the point the city is currently doing a forensic accounting investigation and has turned it over to Niagara Police.

                                          And still the bridge design and construction doesn't inspire confidence - especially given Quebec's history of bridges and structures falling down over the years.

                                          Think I'll take the long way around and avoid gambling on the bridge.

                                              nah, just 2 countries & both are skint. They hauled the money in from the Olympics & didn't do too well themselves
