    The true size of countries

    Quite interesting thingy: http://thetruesize.com/
    Just type in any country and drag it elsewhere to see the true size of them compared to other countries. A country looks a lot larger on the map when it's further from the equator..

          Interesting - I wouldn't have thought Ecuador was bigger than Iceland. Also helps get a true picture of Canada and Brasil.

                              exactly. mercator projections inaccurately emphasize the size of northern nations/regions, whereas gall-peters projections are vastly more accurate in visually representing actual size. there's a cool visual example of that effect here as it relates to the African continent
