Still very popular, much more popular than Ingress, the previous game the same company made with the same tech.
Being from the nerdist age of the Pokemon (huge fan when I was in elementary), the nostalgia factor for my age group is nuts. And yes, I've gone on Pokewalks myself. Southern California is lit with this kind of activity now, especially at Santa Monica Pier. It's not uncommon for people to crowd the beach and pier until 3 - 4am nightly, just for the game.

I think they have an API so people can make new stuff and get data. It would be cool to know where I caught stuff so that is an idea. The guys hacking the data to create stat pages etc seem to be getting traffic. I love when something comes out of nowhere and just blows up.
The best part is it seems to be good for humanity in that we have to go outside and walk. Except for the Fox news watchers who are now afraid for the kids walking in public spaces as it is dangerous.
I wonder if copying those stats pages and making them in another language that isn't released yet has merit?Comment

A restaurant I go to sometimes has a pokemon stop right out front so they have a big ad outside saying you can access the pokestop from inside. I have also gotten a few emails from companies piggybacking Pokemon Go success for their own marketing like so
