News Dr. Theodore Karasik reveals Russian psych warfare strategy known as "maskirovka" (diagram)

    Dr. Theodore Karasik
    7.28.16

.... The peak to date was when the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra held a special concert in Syria?s historic city of Palmyra to symbolize Russia?s successful campaign to oust the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) from the UNESCO site.

In the West, Moscow uses deception (maskirovka) to distract, deceive, mislead and confuse opponents regarding migrants, economic sanctions against Russia, and playing a blame game with the tragic shooting down of Malaysia Airlines flight 17.

The Russians excel in the study of the impact of the information-psychological aspect of information warfare. Thus this idea that Moscow is plotting to hand the US presidential election to Trump is remarkable. The US Congress is likely to investigate these allegations, which will likely further roil American politics before election day on Nov. 8. Any investigation needs to understand the historical context if Russia, as a state actor, is truly involved.

Have no idea, really. Some kind of schizophrenia IMHO. First of all, "maskirovka" means camouflage in Russian - it's used for military and hunting purposes. The things described above are usual propaganda and politics. Turn on CNN/Fox and you will see the same picture, but from another side. Nobody's even tries to camouflage it somehow. As about Trump, so I don't understand why the Western guys thinks that Russia is seeing him as the US president. According to the Russian news he is a stupid idiot and Clinton is a mad bitch. Not a rich choice, right? Personally I don't care who will be the next US president because it won't change anything. The US president is a formal person, so they can elect even a monkey - nobody will even notice that.

            Well it's more than that:

Russian military deception, sometimes known as Maskirovka (Маскировка), is a military doctrine developed from the start of the twentieth century. The doctrine covers a broad range of measures for military deception, ranging from camouflage to denial and deception.

Deceptive measures include concealment, imitation with decoys and dummies, manoeuvres intended to deceive, denial, and disinformation.

            ----

I think we're in the psychological deceive/disinformation arena on American sociology with Putin right now. He threw a got after his failure at the Sochi Olympics but he's over it and wants back in with the U.S. and is using his relations with Trump and the above methods to a achieve that.

and you don't think the US uses similar techniques?

As far as I know, Putin considers Sochi Olympics as a success, but not as a failure, barbecue Russia has got most of the medals there. As about the propaganda, so it hasn't changed while last 100 years and works the same way anywhere, including the USA for example.

Lol...this term precisely, I often use when I am making jokes with my GF when people are doing things with a goal to hide real intention. As far as I know, this is mostly military term and important strategy that can probably be used in politics, too.

Goal is to trick enemy to think that you are weak when you are not, or opposite. Also to camouflage real situation.

Maskirovka was used a lot during WW2,and one of the best examples was on war in Yugoslavia when NATO dropped tons of bombs on fake planes, fake military hardware, etc.
