Looking For Help Backing Up Files Via Interweb !!

Sooo because I have a interweb bizz, all my neighbors think I know everything about computers lolz ... I have been helping a few set up external drives to back up their stuff... Today I was asked this ... What if our house burns down ?? can you back up our stuff at your house ??

I need to know, if they have 2 pc's saving to an external HD... How could I upload that info from the external to my server to keep backups ?? I would feel bad if their house burned down, and I did not have their data !!!

It is showing up external on the main pc ... but what about the data from the other pc ?? and they want it to look for files changed daily, upload to the External, then up to my server ..

buy a HD specifically for Backup, do weekly backups, put HD in fireproof safe, when not doing a back up.

Or if you have a Mac, just use Backup and save it to your iDisk.

The only other way i would know of is to use something like rapidshare but a premium account.
They can upload all there stuff to it and password protect the directory.
Ive done this many times and have never had a problem

if i have something wrong with my computer will you fly over to the UK? :D

You could try the old school sneakernet way, rotating the backup drives. I have two 1TB drives which store my data (encrypted), one stays here as I do a fresh backup, the other at my mum's place as offsite storage... the drive it's backing up is also RAID protected so it would take 4 drive failures at 2 locations to completely wipe out my data.

I'm just waiting for Google to offer "encrypted" online storage... it won't take much for the average Joe to gobble up the latest c00l offering from an awesome company.

In the ToS small print they'll mention that they can index your data and keep it indefinitely, even when you delete it.

I actually use Geek Squad's Online Backup Service. It costs $49 a year and recently saved my ass and ALL my PSD's when I got a virus!

                                          hmm this sucks

Does Carbonite back up external, networked or USB drives?
No. The current version of Carbonite backs up only the files that reside on permanent hard drives on your PC.

Check back soon for a Carbonite service plan that will allow you to back up your external drives.
