...the country didn't go to shit when the 'evil' reformers cum conservatives were elected last time (despite the epic liberal fear mongering), then the liberals make this Dion clown party leader.

Conservatives are gonna steamroll to a majority, but the NDP will reap the biggest reward from the liberal party collapse. The Bloq is also becoming irrelevant in Quebec.

There are 308 seats in the House of Commons. This is the current breakdown.

The Conservatives hold 127 seats vs. 181 non-Conservative. The three main other parties - Liberals, NDP, and Bloc tend to lean to lean center left to far left and they generally support increased social spending and ridiculous things like carbon taxes.

The Progressive Conservatives (PC) became mostly indistinguishable from the Liberal party so a new grassroots party called the Reform party was created. They eventually changed their name to the Canadian Alliance (CA). The PC party had become largely irrelevant after having been reduced to just a few seats while the CA had grown quite popular. The two parties merged in 2003 to form a united front against the Liberal party.

Actually, we have been playing quite a large role especially since 2006:

Anyway, it's quaint how you Americans say "thanks for the help". Makes other countries want to go out there and fight right along side you some more. Next time someone bombs your country, and you ask for our help, but sure to mock us again. Reminds us of who we're dealing with
Im from london but your comparison to americans in iraq does not make sense as they are involved in fierce fighting 24/7 they are going to take heavy losses.

Britiain has taken around 130 casulties in afghanistan just 30 more than canada yet british forces have been fighting since day 1 constantly to today, no we are here to keep the peace and stand around looking cool bullshit.

Hate to break it to you champ but you don't have a fucking clue what your talking about.
We have been fighting since '01; have responsibility for Kandahar province which is the birth place of the Taliban and which no one had bothered to try and control until we moved in. Paved the way into Helmand province for you Brits and then had to come save your ass numerous times due to shitty planning and improper equipment. Your statements are so out of touch with reality that that I'm going to guess that this was just some lame attempt to troll some Canadians.

Why don't you find yourself some Brit squaddies who have actually been to A'stan and then try to run your mouth like this; They will set you straight pretty fast.

Well there are some countries that have been keen to stay out of the fight, Canada hasn't been one of them.

We cannot determine the scale of destruction now. Canada hasnt been involved in heavy fighting since day one, rather than call me an idiot why dont any of YOU back up your claims, canada wasnt involved in any heavy fighting until 2005 in kandah, 4 years after the war started. They may of been involved in some fighting beforehand, used as light support along with a load of other forces but it certainly wasnt heavy fighting.

Simple one to answer, britain which really has been involved in heavy fighting since literally day 1 and has 7500 troops out there, has 130 casulties. Canada which has been involved in far far less fighting, has just 2500 troops out there has 100 casulties.

Canadian Forces, which came under NATO command at the end of July, launched Operation Medusa in an attempt to clear the areas of Taliban fighters once and for all. The fighting of Operation Medusa led the way to the second, and most fierce Battle of Panjwaii in which daily gun-battles, ambushes, and mortar/rocket attacks were targeting the Canadian troops. The Taliban had massed with an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 fighters. The Taliban were reluctant to give up the area, and after being surrounded by the Canadian Forces, they dug in and fought a more conventional style battle. After weeks of fighting, the Taliban had been cleared from the Panjwaii area and Canadian reconstruction efforts in the area began. NATO reported it had killed more than 500 suspected Taliban fighters.
NATO forces began reconstruction efforts after major combat operations of Operation Medusa had ceased. But the British and Canadians still encountered fierce fighting. The Canadian involment in operation Mountain Fury was stepped up when they mounted an operation of their own called Operation Falcon's Summit on December 15, 2006. During Falcon Summit, the Canadians gained control of several key villages and towns that were former Taliban havens, such as Howz-E Madad. During the first week of the operation, massive Canadian artillery and tank barrages were carried out in a successful attempt to clear pockets of Taliban resistance.

Why don't you point out all the heavy fighting engagements that the British infantry were involved in from 2001 until they moved into Helmand in 2006.

Care to quote the stats on how many of our canadian casualties are due to friendly fire from americans? How many yanks have we "accidentally" shot or bombed?

McGuinty in Ontario and Dion are already talking gun bans again. There has been a handgun registry for 60 years. What does it take for these idiots to realize the majority of handgun crime is committed by illegal guns brought in from the US? And Dion has a hardon for certain military rifles, also highly restricted already. If they want more gun control then require some sort of mental evaluation before giving someone a restricted license.

Secondly, Dion wants to increase the price of fuel with his green tax, on everything from the gas in our cars to what we heat our homes with. Thankfully, this is what will cost him the election.

Third, I've seen how much my taxes have increased from McGuinty in Ontario with our stupid health tax, so the liberals can go pound salt.
Don't do it man, even voting NDP is better than conservative. Harper is a snake in the grass.

You could start here for a basic primer.
The U.S. and the UK led the aerial bombing campaign, with ground forces supplied primarily by the Afghan Northern Alliance. In 2002, American, British and Canadian infantry were committed, along with special forces from several allied nations. Later, NATO troops were added.
Then you could try this neat tool called google news. It lets you put in all sorts of keyword combos and you can sort the results by year. You should be able to find 1,000's of old news articles mentioning Canadians in Afghanistan.

Waves of Chinook helicopters carrying several hundred Canadian troops took off from this air base Saturday for a fresh operation in eastern Afghanistan, another sign that coalition forces were stepping up their campaign against al-Qaida and Taliban fighters.

In the south, American Special Forces and Afghan troops disarmed an entire village suspected of harboring sympathizers to the al-Qaida terrorist network, U.S. military spokesman Maj. Bryan Hilferty said. No arrests were made.

And in the southeast, a 1,000-strong British-led force continued a massive sweep through the hillsides, seizing 2,000 rounds of automatic weapons ammunition in a cave, according to Royal Marines spokesman Lt. Col. Paul Harradine.

Each of the missions falls under the umbrella of Operation Mountain Lion ? the overall U.S.-led search for Taliban and al-Qaida remnants in the eastern half of Afghanistan.

Both Operation Torii and Operation Snipe, under Canadian and British command respectively, are backed by U.S. air support and Afghan ground forces. A small number of U.S. troops from the 101st Airborne Division also were participating.

"Things are going well and there have been no battlefield casualties reported," said Col. John Collin, the senior Canadian officer in Afghanistan. One Canadian soldier, however, injured his leg and was evacuated by helicopter.

U.S. Lt. Col. Christopher Pease said the Canadian operation was "in probably the roughest terrain we have experienced to date since we've been in Afghanistan."

He described it as taking place in a mountainous area where altitudes range from 7,000 feet to 11,000 feet. Allied military officials refused to describe the location in further detail....

They may of been involved in some fighting beforehand, used as light support along with a load of other forces but it certainly wasnt heavy fighting.
It's silly to try and quantify what is "heavy" fighting and what isn't.. It's immaterial as our troops have been in combat since practically day one.

There needs to actually be some peace in order to keep it.. There was only a "lull" in combat after the original operations. As long as Al-Queda and the Taliban can continue to train and send "troops" from Pakistan, it will also NEVER end. I just don't see how anyone can possibly think a war against fanatical terrorists can ever be "won". The only way to ever win is to corrupt them with money and power.

Awhile back I learned something that isn't talked about very much and that's that we're HEAVILY involved in the background with the leaders there asisting them with rebuilding the country etc.. at the time, our group was actually the ones that were most trusted and that the leaders there were listening to the most about what to do etc. From the report, I got the impression that it was us and not anyone else that were helping to rebuild the country the most from a planning and organizational aspect.

In fact, the U.S. adopted some of our basic training techniques and even sent some of their training officers and troops to Canada for training over the years.

Same for the Bloc.. a lot of people are now questionning their existence... Seems like the Harper team will win more county than the last one...

People outside quebec aren't allowed to vote bloc, last time I checked quebec doesn't have the population to elect the bloc, even if 100% voted.

Think how the voting system would work if all candidates were restricted to a province. Ontario wins all the time.
