    how long do you let money bleeding projects go on for...

    curious how long you have patience for with projects that cost more than they bring in, with the hopes that sometime in the future they will pay off in selling the site or some other factor in monetization making the site profitable

    at times it's easy to get frustrated at the constant bandwidth charges every month yet it is so hard to just pull the plug on something that has taken on a life of its own, just as it is hard to sell cheap too when in the back of your mind you think that there is hope for large profit someday in the future


    more and more I'm starting to think that pulling the plug, forgetting about it, and investing energy and resources into projects with more immediate profitability might be the intelligent move in the volatile business of the internet

      It's different for everyone... I think the deciding factor depends on what your goals are. Figure out what your goals are and whether or not this project can help with those goals... if not, dump it.

          You had two choices.

          1) start a thread explaining how you have a project that is losing you money.

          2) start a thread selling a project that will make someone else money.

              Well lets see Steve Jobs backed Pixar at about a million dollar a year loss for like 5 plus years before it got its break.

              Now sure you are not him, and perhaps the loss is a greater percentage of your income than that was for him. Though I think in the long term, the same principle would apply. Do you believe in the project?

                          Is your site YouTube?

                          I've been working on a project for the past year which has cost a moderate amount (probably about $5k capital and $3k/yr ongoing) and it has so far made $0. I need to spend a couple more mil cloning myself so I can complete it and make something of it.
