          Overall inbound links to a site from 'authority sites' are usually found in top rankings websites -- 'authority links' and not affiliate spam

          If real users like and link to a website.

                                              You are right about it, BUT if you make your own tests then you can match your results and see that what they are saying is true, nobody has tweeted their way to the top, if any of the people above have PROOF than social media its a factor in the rankings please post it and discuss.... All I saw above was people confusing correlation with causation and posting anecdotal evidence.
