Health Gurus: Can Amino Acid Supplements Make You Sleepy?

I purchased an amino acid supplement shake to complement my workouts, but after drinking it for the first time I feel sleepy. This is after waking up fully rested, too. Does anyone have experience with this? Btw, the brand is Amino Vital Pro. Thanks!

Haha, thanks Ice. This is unexplored territory for me and so I wasn't sure if it was cause for concern.

Yep, many of them. Some are actually abused recreationally for their effects on the human body. GHB being one of them. You may be hypersensitive to the aminos in the drink. Hard to say, I'm not a doc.

          here is my theory

that stuff is way more sugar (maltodextrin, I know, some might say it is lower glycemic than regular table sugar, but I still think it is junk unless you are really needing more empty calories in your diet) than protein

I would throw that shit in the garbage and get a real protein supplement as a basis, something like a good quality Whey Isolate

Edit: I looked at it closer and that is not even really intended as a protein supplement, more of a 'gatorade' type of electrolyte post workout crap..... my previous thoughts still hold, I would get a real protein supplement, and then maybe if I really wanted it as an immediate post workout supplement I would mix it with fruit juice to add the carbs
