    Cookies.. who gets the sale.

ok seems after 9 years in this biz, I am too dumb to know this answer exactly..

surfer visits site A.. gets cookie.. surfer than visits site B and joins

does site B over write cookie and get the sale.. or does site A get the sale?

I was under the impression that if cookie lasted x amount of time.. than site A would get the sale as long as surfer visited site B in the time frame cookie was set for.

Depends on the gateway and how it's implemented.

NATS consults both cookies and affiliate ID.

If site a and site b - are the same domain, different tours, unique sites. Then the sale to site b would show up for site a. A result of having the same billing codes in.

If site a and b are totally different sites. Site A's cookie means nothing, as the domain is different.

if this is true, why all the bitching about how long a cookie lasts..

hell nowadays.. the chances of a surfer running into site B is huge.

The way NATS uses it is explained in the strack documentation.

NATS lets you set the cookie to different times before it is expired; the official documentation says 10 days, but I've seen different times on different servers.

If the cookie is set and valid, it gets the sale as it was there before the latest affiliate code. If the cookie is not set, expired, or otherwise, the second affiliate will get the credit.

This is assuming a perfect structure where someone has their cookies set properly, the NATS server is configured, session data is not prematurely expired, and the moon is in Jupiter, of course.

But, the rule of thumb is this:
                cookie > nats code > type-in

That's to stop a Webmasters, from stealing your surfer, say through spyware or a small iframe. If you visit tourA, then within a very short period of time, you visit tourA again but this time through a different ref code, the first Webmaster referral would get the sale.

If the paysite has a spyware/malware attack problem, then this corrects it.

I mean if I sent a surfer to my site.. and he leaves.. a very good chance that if he surfs a few more sites he will hit site B and my cookie will be garbage.

I'm afraid that I'm not familiar with this system, but your easiest way to test this would be to install "Live HTTP Headers" for Firefox.

Follow your link, then follow someone else's; see if your cookie is forcefully changed.

That method works for any piece of proprietary software that uses cookies. Momma didn't raise no shavers.

That's hardly the issue with Zango at all. Zango pops OVER the sites people are attempting to join.

Anyone remember the CCBill checkout popup? That's not even opening shop in front of a competitors without permission, that's stepping right in front of the cash register and pretending to be a cashier.

Disagree? Then why did they hide/disable the URL? That, to me, is outright admittance of theft.

cookie stuffing seems to be a huge topic around the net today but I am having a really hard time figuring out why? I thought maybe this was affecting me possibly so I had to dig all the info I could only to find out ... I wasted my time and should just keep working.

another day wasted, time for bed.

I have no idea how this works, but I get a fair number of "bookmark" sales across all my NATS sponsors every pay period. I'm guessing that's a cookied surfer signing up for a site at a later date, but I could be wrong.

Either that or people actually bookmark paysites with my refcode. Who knows, I'm drunk.
