    Rant Robbed by Godaddy

I wanted to renew a domain that expired 4/28 last night. There was the usual annual fee + $80 for being late.
Site isn't making money yet, but has too much potential to let go.

if you're more than 18 days late they want that fee. there are other places like dynadot.com that give you 40 days to renew without such fees.
you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..

Yeah, they only send you a reminder every 2 weeks for 2 months but it is their problem

I have no idea why people use godaddy.

I presume because they are cheap.

But often with things cheap, they tend not to be.

Email them & see what they can do. Considering they offer the prices as low as 99 cents, this is ridiculous.

or maybe wait until the domain's available from another site?

                      Robbed

It wasn't so much being lazy, as just keep thinking about shutting down all my sites. One day I want to, the next I want to keep going.

As for using Godaddy. Once you sign a domain up there, it's almost fucking impossible to move.

So Godaddy is robbing you, despite the fact that your domain has been expired for 3 weeks, give me a break. You're lucky they're even letting you renew it at this point. If the domain doesn't mean $80 to you, then wait 6 weeks until after its dropped and you can pick it back up for $10.

I have moved 1500 domains away from Go Daddy in the last year. Not hard at all. Easier than many of the other popular registrars.

If you were with namecheap you get at least a two week grace period where you can renew the domain, maybe even longer.

Godaddy gives you an 18 day grace period, his domain expired on 4/28 and on May 16th, the price went up to $80. He had ample opportunity to renew it, but decided to wait till the last possible moment and it cost him.

As for using Godaddy. Once you sign a domain up there, it's almost fucking impossible to move.
Just because YOU didn't pay your domain registration fee, doesn't mean GoDaddy ripped you off for getting the domain back. FFS this is your own fucking fault. Next time pay your bill when its due and you won't have to pay these late fees.
