"The man who saved the world"
closest we came to accidental nuclear war, back in 1983. Half of US and USSR would be wiped out if not for a decision of one man back than.

"Doomsday Book" (South Korea, 2012)
Sounds good. They mentioned that incident on "The Americans" last week.
some blockbusters from the 90's were so damn entertaining. Action adventures full of humor without all the stupid superhero crap: It is possible.
One of my favourites is 'The long kiss goodnight', i watch this one again a year ago or so (after 10 years i think) and it's such a funny great ride, that movie is the definition of entertainment for me.
My recommendation is "The Young Visitors" has early Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, early Bill Nighy before those guys were USA famous. Weird film but hilarious, and great to see those guys in non-standard roles.

Very true. Add these.
Mona Lisa
The Long Good Friday
Cadillac Man
The Debt Collector
Last Orders
Gosford Park
The 51st State
Sliding Doors by Pedro Almodovar
True Romance by Tarantino [early Tarantino, I like it as much as Pulp Fiction, and this movie is not-so-well-known by adorable]
La Haine by Mathieu Kassovitz [one of my top movies ever] Imagine a School...Summerhill - for parents - I am pretty much into alternative education, especially because hungarian state schools are shit [both my daughters go to Waldorf school] Across the Universe for Beatles fans Stand by Me - childhood fav movie
The Magician - About a Melbourne Hit Man who makes people "Disappear"
"Melbournian hit-man Ray Shoesmith likes to debate with his victims such questions as Wayne Carey's moral culpability or whether or not Clint Eastwood appeared in The Dirty Dozen. We know this because he's being filmed by a documentary team, the footage to be released a la Pauline Hanson in the event of his early death."
No offense, but this is a cult film, not one which people haven't heard of.
And as a sci-fi fan: this is a shit. I am a bit afraid to say Kubrick is an overhyped fucktard, this movie proves it. The only thing I like from it is the music / main theme of it at least..
This movie was one of my biggest movie-related disappointments in my life. So many told me Kubrick is a demigod... than I saw eyes wide shut [terrible pain - I DEMAND my hours back!] and this.. [same..] I can name a few other 'classics' from him I will never see because these were So Disappointing..
12 Angry Men!
I know it is ranked very high on IMDb, but I noticed that many of my friends (ok, my only friend) doesn't want to see it because it's 1957 or so... Yes, I know they're all sitting in one room, it's black and white, but trust me - even if you need to go to the toilet, you will not go!
It's that good. Also, it's 90 mins long, so it's not like you will die if you don't go.

i agree about 2001. I like scifi movies and this one was so hyped and i never saw it. Until a few months ago, i wanted to watch a good scifi and i thought i cant go wrong with this one.
Christ what an annoying movie. I can really enjoy slow movies but this takes boring to another level... And that deafening, irritating classical music going on for fucking 15 minutes straight, jesus. A few minutes i can take it and even enjoy it, but this was truly agonizing. And this movie is so boring it's like a sleeping pill.
By the way i saw it in 3 times because the first 2 times i fell asleep.
Only part i liked was when Hal turned on the guys, but that was also about 15 minutes of what felt like 6 hours.

I have had La Haine on my wishlist for a year, never pulled the trigger on it. It is that good? Vincent Cassel is ftw.
Someone else posted the loved ones, that looks pretty dope, going to check that out.
Lets keep this thread going. I have been looking for some new movies to watch.
Have you seen Rampage? Pretty dope, super low budget but good. I was up one night and put Raid 1 on, as soon as that was over I had to start Raid 2, that was a late night. Great movies.
