John McCain's presidential campaign is threatening a lawsuit against the National Enquirer over a print edition story the tabloid ran today alleging that Gov. Sarah Palin has had an extramarital affair with her husband's business partner.

Oddly and I can not think I am saying this. As a print company getting such scoops, the Enquirer has been pretty spot on beating everyone to the punch.

Makes me give this a likely fact ratio of about 75% at this time, they may have some small part wrong.

I don't think McCain's people "vetted" her at all except on the surface. I don't think he would've chosen her as the best candidate of all his choices, but I suppose it's possible.

I think some of it is simply that nobody knew her then out of nowhere she is the VP candidate and the press went fishing to find out about her and quickly found dirt and that dirt was just too good to pass up.
