I did a Eurotrip for a month on my own. Started in Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, a few places in Spain and ended up in Lisbon.

I loved it, but I am an unsociable bastard, so not speaking to many people was quite nice.

I have taken a couple of vacations on my own. I like it. You get to do what you want when you want without dealing with others.

When I went to Egypt I used a company called Globus (Escorted Tours - Globus® Official Site). The tour I was on had about 20 people, some couples and some singles. The guide was great and handled all the logistics so I just had to relax and enjoy.

Travel Alone

It is many times better to experience a vacation, meal or movie with another person, be them a friend or lover. Experiences are meant to be shared.

But being an only child and spent years after my divorce alone, I have no problem doing any activity alone. I was recently in a BBQ joint and the old man that owned the place & grill master saw me eating alone. He asked if I had been there often and I replied no and asked why he asked. His response was I seemed comfortable eating alone there, so I must have come often. Told him it was my 3rd time there.

Can't count the times I went to a movie alone or the 1000's of lunches or suppers alone. Happens when you're terminally shy. My girlfriend, with 6 brothers & sisters, I can't imagine her do anything alone. Recently, she had to rescue a brother, who had become homeless, and was going to drive 1500 miles (1 way) to bring him here. Knowing she'd never make it alone, I volunteered to go with her. I'd ride the 30-hour Amtrak ride home, so he'd have room in the car for his belongings. Only thing that bugged me, was the best part of the train ride was in darkness.

Just go. If it's a singles vacation package. It's people in the same situation. Most aren't looking for love or sex. Some won't talk to anyone, but the majority will be reasonably friendly.

There is nothing better than traveling on your own. Get to do what you want when you want and meet some amazing people along the way.

I find people feel far less threatened in approaching you when you are on your own, both the good and the bad, but who gives a shit, just roll with it.

I plan on messing about in Eurpoe in July / Aug and maybe Sept this year by myself. Looking forward to it.

To clarify for others, Yes, I DO have mates and I'm not a total sad sack, but tbh, my mates dont just happen to have a spare 5 grand or so and the ability to drop everything and sod off for 3 weeks to a month somewhere

I have indeed travelled alone in the pat many times with no problems, but this time I simply fancied some suggestions of trips that were specifically designed for solo travellers. (Like Kanes link - No Solo price Supplements etc)

I have cruised before, and thats OK solo because they put you at a dining table with other Solo passengers etc, however I dont have all the formal wear required for a cruise these days nor do I wish to have to buy it just to use once

A Single vacation is great. When you're in a relationship, taking a seperate vacation can really clear your head. If you're alone to begin with, a vacation is still really good for you for the same reason. It'll help you relax and help give you a dress perspective on business, etc. It doesn't matter where you go - just go.

The tour I went on made me pay about an extra $150 because I was by myself and they almost always had me in a double room. I could have saved that if I wanted to be paired up with some other solo traveler, but I didn't want that.

The group I was in had about 20 people and it was a mix of single, married, and dating couples. There were some people that kept to themselves and nobody bothered then and there were others that ended up forming little "cliques" that they mostly hung out with. I spent most of my time with three other people, another solo guy and two girls who were friends and were traveling together. We had a blast and I ended up hooking up with one of the girls for most of the trip. The other guy in our little clique was 26 and still a virgin (not by choice, he told a funny story about how it is just a thing now and seems to be keeping him from meeting women). On the last night of the trip the other girl in our clique decided to throw the guy a little mercy and took his virginity. Lucky dude got to see the pyramids and lose his virginity to a hot Asian nurse.

I tavel already 5 years alone around the world. You meet a lot of people that are also travel solo a lot. I saw a lot of them back in other parts of the world and than we hang out there together for some weeks.

Alone for a few weeks is a little harder to realy get connected. Most long travellers don't even make contact with couples that stay a few days and leave.

I recommend to travel alone, you can do what you want with who you want. I was in Mexico, started Tinder (or Badoo) and the first date was great and she showed me Mexico DF and surrounding cities and the last two months i stayed at her place. In Bangkok i met, 3 hours after arriving, a nice girl from the Phillipinnes and we explorered Bangkok together for a week. She was crazy and wanted to see pussy pingpong and go to sexclubs. And no this wheren't prostitutes. Just people that where free to explore everything they where curious about.

Mostly i hang out at neighbourrhoods where there are more backpackers so it is easy to start a conversation and get to know people.

There are also travel sites where people look for people to travel. Just look there and make the deal that you always can splitt up and find your own way if you want.

A good way to travel if you don't mind is couchsurf some days. I was at a friends house where also a couchsurfer arrived and we went out together in the city for a weekend. The guy was also Dutch and liked it to explore the Brazilian city with us and he ended up with a woman. I heard couchsurfing is the perfect way for travelling around, see a place with locals and most of the time your host knows some nice friends, if she is not interested to have sex ;)

I think i hate it with a group, but i heard people who liked it. If you go alone it is als cheaper and you can get in unbelievable situations. In Bangkok i went out with a guy that was hanging out alone. He was from Qatar and he went completely crazy enjoying it.

On Tripadvisor you have some (free) tours in a lot of cities. You can decide what you will give the guide. Also a good way to explore the sightseeing points of a city with other people for a few hours.

I also visit adult industry events when they around. Therefor i was at the Lalexpo in Medellin and stayed 2 months in Medellin. First week going out with he adult industry and make tours and than stayed longer with other adult industry people that wanted to stay longer.

I would choose to go alone. But take your country wisely. You don't want to go to the USA or New Sealand alone. And i would do it now, maybe next year you have a girlfriend that likes Poo and is so jealous you can't even go out alone.

I like it also great way to really unwind. Plus you always make fast friends that way

I have been vacationing alone as in buying plane tickets, ordering a hotel and then going to the beach or to the bars/clubs alone.
In fact my best vacations have been those. Reason - instead of only spending time with those who you came with, you are "forced" to have fun and meet new people, do more exiting things etc.

Some people do not have character for that though. Some people would not even dare to go to a bar alone in their own home town, lol.

Does that count? Since you mention some organizations I am not sure if that is what you mean.

Why?

I travelled a lot and like to meet other travellers. USA is too big, you need to hire a car. A lot of nice things are for families/couples, more expensive so less travellers that go alone.

In Asia, South America, Europe, there are more travellers travelling alone. For 15 USD you can have a good hotel. And very easy to travel to another city when you dont like it. Best tips i got from travellers when i choose another destination. Most people travel in circles, you see them in Thailand, than Laos, Vietnam or Cambodja. again. Or you join them. There are whole cities where travellers stay long time like Ciang Mai, Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Koh Samui, Tulum, Cartagena, .. There you meet for 100% sure other travellers. While in the grand canyon i didn't see any backpacker.

One reason - there are almost no hostels in US. There are plenty of BIG CITIES with literally 0 hostels in them. Strange as that is untapped business niche.

I think you mentioned that you do not mean something "dating" related.
So my question is - why are those packages you posted are supposed to be aimed at solo people?
What would be the difference if you went solo on a similar package but other travelers would not be solo?
If it is not about dating (solo people meeting other solo people during the trip) then I do not understand what is the difference between those packages and same/similar packages that do not claim to be "for solo travelers only"?

Well thats a fair question but to really answer, you nee d to trust me in that I say there is no side or ulterior motive to my answer... And my answer is that the difference is, that its just solos really... Thats about it. Everyone else is 'solo'- lets not say single, but solo - and you are all in the same (metaphorical) boat...

The idea is that really I suppose that there are not any couples etc on the trip, just solo people. I mean, OK, some people would want to hook up, or try and meet that special someone, but its really not the emphasis of the trip. If thats what you wanted, there are PLENTY of better options available.

I however am not considering hooking up or the possibility thereof to be the focus of the trip. Would I say no, if someone I found attractive offered? Possibly not, however thats not the aim of the game for me.

I look at it more as a complete package holiday all for one payment. Flights, airport transfer, Double room to myself in a nice hotel, meals etc all taking place somewhere with a group of like minded individuals. Events would be planned during the week that you could choose to participate in, (or not as the case may be) Join in or not, the choice is yours...

I'm thinking it could be a nice hassle free relaxing week in an environment that I perceive as one I would like to experience... At least once...

Is there a huge difference to doing as you said and going somewhere without the 'solo' tag attached to it? Well other than paying single traveler supplements on the room etc, then no, probably not... But then again it might be? I dunno...

Bottom line I think is like I have said I have been away on my own before and done it that way. Now I might like to try it another way... No biggy

I love solo vacations. Ive taken several in my single days. Once I went to Mexico to a kite boarding school for 7 days. Another time went to Miami just to chill by myself before heading home to Ohio for the holidays. Hung out in Spain for a week solo. One of the best things about traveling by yourself is that you are more likely to meet new people instead of staying in your comfort zone and just hanging with the person you went on vacation with.

That was the reason I asked. I just thought I was missing something when you searched for something like that and it looked that there is no difference (or as you say "probably" no difference)

Indeed, this is yuuuge plus.
And second is that only you decide WHEN and WHAT you do every day, every hour.
When you think about it, it is also a very big plus compared to when you need to coordinate every step between 2 or even more people. So every time, every day or hour you are "deciding" on next things to do.
