There's a movie coming out called "Collinwood," which is about the high school I went to. It was the toughest high school in Cleveland, Ohio, which was a pretty tough town then and probably today as well.
Bear in mind, I'm 55. This was in the late 60's. It was a "changing neighborhood" back then. The school was situated in an Italian neighborhood, but a goodly proportion of the residents in the school's district were Eastern European and African American. There was a lot of racial tension, and the local Italians made it tough on all the "outsiders" who had to go through their neighborhoods to reach the school.
It was a huge school with about 7,000 students, occupying a chunk of land as big as four city blocks and 3 or 4 stories tall, too. When I say 3 or 4 city blocks, understand that the school pretty much came up to the sidewalk. There were no major school "grounds" to speak of.
