I see the glorious amercian democratic system is allowing porn site operators to decide what should and should not be a holiday yet again.

I'm going to say no.
Reason: Dec. 7th isn't a holiday either, yet a lot of people were killed that day too in an unprovoked attack. What about D day? or any other day in history where thousands of Americans lost their lives? If they declared a national holiday for every one of these days (because none are any less significant or devastating than any others) then you'd have a holiday ever other week all year long. Wouldn't be a bad thing for some, but ridiculous for many.
I'm sure sept. 11th will remain a highly remembered day for the rest of time, with or without an official holiday to mark it.Promote Wildmatch, ImLive, Sexier.com, and more!!

I, an American.. not Canadian... say yes..
Only because I know that day affected me alot, and i think we should remember all the bullshit that made it happen also.
But it should be a holiday...
If it does become a holiday, I know I will have more emotions on Sept. 11 than I will on valentine's or Labor day...Comment

i would prefer a citizen of any country to have a national holiday an event that something good happened than something bad. With one exception in my country, we have national holidays events that had to do with victories, democracy re-establishment etc. Sad events will still exist, be part of the history and that's part of the family, school and society to remind them, but you don't need a national day for that. Such national days are excuses for some people that put 8 hours of less work beyond the event.Last edited by Theo; 09-02-2002, 10:48 AM.Comment

And it's not just about remembering a terrible day in history and the people who died. Do you know what are the economic losses when the country is in a holiday? We're talking billions here (Ask any economists). I also agree with CDSmith. We just can't have a holiday for every tragic events in history.Comment

Worst day in US history? What are you, 16? Let's recall the Pearl Harbor attack, first shots of the civil war, JFK assassinated, Lincoln assassinated, Black Friday.. there are many more events that have caused nationwide panic.
If other countries (namely Israel) declared a holiday or day of observance for everytime people were killed by terrorists, there'd be a holiday every 3 days!
Not only do I think it is inappropriate for it to be a holiday (however a day of rememberence is fair enough), I also do not like how they are treating the lot. Rather than a huge memorial, I think a small tasteful memorial would be much more fitting, and rebuild perhaps nothing quite as spectacular as the WTC, but high rises nonetheless and continue business as usual.Xanadu024 (aim) or 286785389 (icq)

I think one reverent & respectful holiday is enough though, otherwise all the dates of past horrific tragedies should be declared holidays as well. Declaring new holidays puts an amazing drain on the economy as well.
And buddy, you forget that there were some Canadians on those planes involved in Sept. 11th attacks, and there were about 240-300 reported CANADIANS in the wtc that lost their lives, which of course affects thousands of lives of their freinds and relatives back here in Canada as well. So next time you open your hole and dis Canadians, you best remember that Canadians and Americans are not so very far apart on most things in this life. absolutely not. not til there's a pearl harbor day, a jfk day, oklahoma city fed building day, (borrowing from booker's post), etc.
the only thing that comes out of holidays, anyways, is inconvenience (closed banks, post office, union shops).

worst day in us history...
Better read up on the Civil War... many more died on a single day in battle / S... killed by our own no less.
--------
they don't explain why
Easy to figure out SR... more holidays so they might not have to pull a shift at Mickey D's if they are lucky. lol Seems like the younger the person is anymore, the lazier they are.
-----------
WHY give those terrorists more of what they want by creating a holiday?? They would take that as yet another victory over us. They consider us as weak while they are strong in their own faith, so a holiday just reflects that we weaklings have to take a day off to reflect while they bury their dead the same day they die and carry on.
We need to show the same resolve so they KNOW sooner or later we WILL be coming for them, no matter where and what rock they are hiding under...<center><a target="_blank" href="http://dev.datedollars.com/index.php?s=signup&aid=535&cfg=aac"><img border="0" src="http://216.130.172.224/gfy/gsig.gif" width="490" height="100"></a><br><a href="http://dev.datedollars.com/index.php?s=signup&aid=535&cfg=aac" target="_blank"><b><font face="Arial"><font color="#FF99FF"> Buy me away from Slavedriver Smokey!<br>It's May Sig Sweeps!<font></b></center>Comment

I wouldn't want to see Sept 11th a holiday.
As for worse days, the only ones that come to mind were all attacks by, or on millitary forces. That said, I think it was the worst day in American history. btw, I'm 37, not 18.
As with all of our holidays they turn into some abhorrent of sales!
The last thing I ever want to see is a banner in a window that reads Sept 11th Sale!!!Comment

Worst day for who, I bet some Indains would say their worst day would be when white people first came and discovered America.
Holiday no, we will all remember it as a very horrible day in history but to make it a holiday would be wrong in many peoples eyes. We souldnt make every tragic event a holiday. Besides holidays are just another reason to party get drunk buy all kinds of shit as in decorations and B.S like that

True, up to a point. Just show me one that is. How long do you think it would take for it to devolve into another excuse for a "twelve hour blowout" at Acme Furniture, Joe's Used Cars, and Akmed's Liquor and Beauty Supply?Originally posted by ^R3K^

Maybe a rolling momenrt of silence, timezone by timezone at the exact time the first plane hit the first tower...? No matter where you are, radios and tv etc broadcast it as it happens, bow for a moment to reflect.<center><a target="_blank" href="http://dev.datedollars.com/index.php?s=signup&aid=535&cfg=aac"><img border="0" src="http://216.130.172.224/gfy/gsig.gif" width="490" height="100"></a><br><a href="http://dev.datedollars.com/index.php?s=signup&aid=535&cfg=aac" target="_blank"><b><font face="Arial"><font color="#FF99FF"> Buy me away from Slavedriver Smokey!<br>It's May Sig Sweeps!<font></b></center>Comment

Respect is one thing. A Holiday is another.
Holiday = Happy Joyous
There really is no connection!
Just look at what has become of Memmorial Day.
SALES!!! PARTY!!!
Why?
To mourn our dead soliders??Comment

I don't think it should be a holiday, because in about 2 years everybody would just party on that day. Another reason to close schools, etc etc.
Example, Martin Luther King -- How many Non African American really DO remember this Holiday and go an pray etc!
The school is out, we personally work from home so its not much difference to us, besides the fact that it is another day where the kids don't go to school.
How would you honestly remember that "holiday"
Would you go to church?
Light a candle?
Make a donation?
Take 50% of you income on that day and give it to the "Red Cross"
Or would you just stay at home, bum out, watch tv, hang out with your friends and update your galleries?
Start by telling us what you will do this year. HONESTLY!! and you will see why there is no way this is going to be a holiday.

I think it should be a day when people put in an extra four hours of work, not a holiday. Why do Americans always think first about barbecues and days at the beach when it comes to commemorating solemn events. Don't tell me most Americans would meditate or pray on the Sept 11. Not with a straight face, anyway.SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. This is what I would also like to repeat. Sept.11 is no celebration that we should call it a holiday. Osama's soul will be happy to see if the Americans call it a celebration. Let's work now...I think it should be a day when people put in an extra four hours of work, not a holidayComment
