QR codes in stores

What are you going to do? Hand out the stickers or randomly stick them around the site in the hope a manager doesn't have them removed

Maybe, you should try flyers on windshields in parking lots or posters on telephone poles

Stick them around the products and run.

Some shops in NYC/Cali/etc are adding QRs for phone shopping, so why not try it for myself?..

I would say you would be violating the TOS. I think the Apple store guys would probably take them down and complain to whomever you are an affiliate with.

If you were to do this at a Wal-Mart or something, you could probably get away with it on a small scale.

But would it be worth it? How many people actually use a QR code?

More like being a better salesman than most of them. They'll still get the sale, I'll just get a cut instead..

I tried something similar for a few months 3-4 years ago but stopped to do another more lucrative opportunity which left me with little time. It was a couple years after a QR code based tour at Central Park and many people still believed that QR code usage would increase. So after I finished the other project around a year later, I did some research but it didn't seem as if there was or would ever be an increase in usage so I did other things instead.

There is absolutely no way in hell you could do something like that at an Apple store and an even less likely chance it would work at fucking Gucci! Saying you want to sell Apple products at an Apple store indicates that you're likely an SEO guy with a limited understanding of traditional marketing strategy. Thinking that it would be a good idea to try something like that at Gucci indicates you have very little understanding of lifestyle marketing and an even worse understanding of the target. If it's something you want to pursue you need to a be much more strategic in figuring out your target and much more creative in delivering your message.

Here are a couple examples of what I did...

Duty Free Cigarettes - Cigarettes are $13/pack in NYC and you cannot smoke in bars so I placed stickers wherever I could on streets with a high density of bars because I knew there would be a lot of people outside smoking cigarettes.

Viagra & Other Pills - Gay people like to fuck and tend to do lots of coke so naturally I put stickers selling viagra in the bathrooms of gay bars.

In both instances from the start I made creative ads which I hoped would resonate with the target. Then once I got a better idea of where I would be placing the ads, I made them neighborhood specific so as to increase credibility. There is a lot recurring billing upside when targeting smokers and drug users but I wasn't able to tap into that as much as I'd hoped because both sponsors I was using disappeared within in 6-8 months after I started making sales. There are other target/product pairings which did work and will work but I focused on those two because placing the stickers can be time consuming and it was efficient for me to hit both targets simultaneously. At the end of the 'campaign' I was placing stickers in Hell's Kitchen, the East Village, and the West Village 2x per week each.

When you do something like that there's really no limit as to how creative you can get when so it was fun to push the boundaries of decency when creating the ads without having to worry about restriction. It was also kind of fun to place the ads at first. I guess you can say I got a bit of a rush out of it because I knew that what I was doing was 'bad' but after the first few weeks it felt like a really ghetto type way to be spending time. And even though technically not any more ghetto a job than sitting in front of computer all day doing blackhat to push porn, fake dick pills, or fake dating sites, not nearly as lame as it would be to push toon or hentai content, and definitely not nearly as disturbing as it would be to push hairy bush or midget porn, it felt pretty fucking ghetto and I didn't like it. Had there been a more bullish outlook for QR usage rates I would have only done so via legitimate marketing with a legitimate sponsor.

I would presume that not many people would scan the code.

And as soon as someone does I would presume it would be reported to the store.

Also there is a huge chance of someone under age of 18 scanning the qr code.

And why is that an issue for someone wanting to buy an iPhone?

Regardless of that or whatever the t&c implications may be it won't work because it's a bad marketing strategy.

People are to lazy to scan your stickers

Now that I'm sober, why would anyone buy something online by scanning a QR when the real thing is right in front of them and no shipping or waiting?...

I do like the Viagra in the bathroom idea, though, I might test with penis pills.

Maybe if it was Cheaper or free.

Or something sold out or an affiliate program with free shipping or different colors not in the store, etc.

A couple of years ago I "loaded" a random QR code pasted onto a wall in a laneway.

It told me to fuck off into the real world, and stop playing with my phone.
