US soldier about georgian soldiers.
While they may dress in uniforms similar to the US, and some of them have US weapons, they aren't even close to US troops. Of the Georgian units I've seen, only the Commandos had any disciple. The regular units had SERIOUS disciple problems. They stole any and everything they could get a hold of, including the radio and antenna mount off of the HMMWV the NCOIC of their MiTT was driving. When confronted, their commander claimed innocence until the NCOIC told them they would get nothing else from the US military until his equipment was returned. So it "magically" appeared that night.
In Kuwait, they were routinely caught steeling from other units, they broke into shipping containers to steel MREs, and uniforms, many of them got caught steeling form the PX, they set several structures on fire because they were smoking in no smoking areas, etc., etc. Until they can get their sh*t together, there's no way in hell they should be allowed into NATO.

As I said, the Commando battalion was very disciplined and well led, but they were still equipped with older soviet era weapons (And they did have quite few female hotties). As for the other units, I wouldn't trust them to run the fry station at McDonalds. Their officers were garbage, and hey had no NCOs to speak of. They seemed more interested in what they could beg, barrow or steal from the US. The only reason many of them were here was because they get a supplement to their pay from the US. Most of the officers seemed to out to fatten their own wallets on the backs of their troops.
They need to make clean sweep of the officer corps, actually form a NCO corps, and enforce discipline in the units (that doesn't mean you beat your soldiers, but lead by example). It's a little hard when your officers treat their troops like peasants. They'll never show them any respect, you can't lead by fear alone.
At a minimum, it'll take them five years to weed out the old guard, and start replacing them with a better trained officer corps. If they start now, it'll take five to ten years before they have a seasoned NCO corps within their enlisted ranks, and these guys will be the backbone of any force they field. Until they do, they need to stay as far away from NATO as possible. From what I've seen, if I were the Russians, I wouldn't be worrying about them starting a war, but I would be checking my pockets to see if I still had my wallet, or if the tires were still on my car in the morning.Comment

I don't believe anything right now. I'm simply pointing out the fact that many Russian journalists have been murdered over the years for not reporting the party line. Until independent reporters get on the ground, I think the whole issue is quite murky. Both sides are stretching the truth for global support.
And yes, I'm one of those rednecks in Chicago. We have them all over the city.

Uhhhhhh..... I am not a Russian. Nor do I believe that Russia is blameless in this situation. My only point was that the Georgians launched an attack which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and the media could only scream about "Russian Aggression".
Now that Georgia has miscalculated it seems clear that Putin intends to take maximum advantage of the situation to try and force a regime change in Georgia. I am not one of the Russians on this board who believes every piece of propaganda from the Kremlin. I find the idiocy on both sides of this debate quite annoying. This is not a conflict which can be broken down into to "good guys" and "bad guys".
Their is plenty of hypocrisy on all sides of this issue but I have to say the US and the EU brought this conflict on themselves by insisting on independence for Kosovo. That decision has opened up the door for the Russians in South Ossetia, Abkhazia and likely soon in Pridnestrovie. ha ha. That's true. I've worked with Russians, and they were all sneaky and dishonest. All of them. One got fired for being a lying pussbag that tried to get out of work whenever possible. I had a direct office war with another who wanted my job and tried to assassinate my character. Really fucked-up, movie type shit that makes me work from home now.
I also have 2 Russian neighbors and they are assholes, and everyone around here wants them to move so badly. They do fucked up shit, and they have no class, and stuff 20 people in their fucking condo, most of them illegal. They leave cigarette butts all over the property, leave their garbage sitting out on their front step for 2 days, and one of them has a kid that plays his fucking drum kit all hours of the day with his window open.
My impression is that they suck. If there are some good, ones, I have yet to meet one that's worth a damn.

I really don't know. The only thing I know for sure, Putin and Medvedev have a serious will to get Saakashvili and punish him for war crimes (perhaps in Hague). They also want to show everyone that murdering of Russian citizens will not more be tolerated. Russia is not the same as it was 15 years ago. The country have enough power to do that. I strong believe that no one is going to join Georgia to Russia. Georgia is not the target, but Saakashvili is.
So.... There could be many possible scenarios. I also think that USA have set up Saakashvili and will use this situation to start a war against Iran. They already re-grouping their forces in zone of the Persian Gulf. Do you know about that?
When I'm reading the news, I'm trying to see the real goals of all the participants for a near future. The USA is a participant, and course they were planning this and will use it for their own purposes. Georgia is not so important for them right now. Their real target is Iran.

Watching BBC right now. Everything is about Georgia and almost nothing about South Ossetia. It even looks that Russian have bombed Ossetia but not Georgians. No interviews with Ossetian and Abkhazian people. But there is BUG interview with Saakashvili right now. If you have an access to BBC you can see it by yourself.
