That depends if the designer is completing a project in a certain manner that will save you time, money and give you the best possible chances of converting with your website a slight overpay is worth it to keep these types around.

More goes into the design today then just designing. If the designer is one dimensional in abilities and doesn't understand traffic then yes it's an issue in overpaying.

I'm a graphic design / frontend design instructor on the side, so staying current with the latest technology is a must. Which is a big plus as frontend development is starting to get more and more advanced.

Long are the days gone when you used Adobe Fireworks to slice web designs. ;)

Zuzana is good and always gets the job done. THese days that's a very strong recommendation. S20 does a great job as well. Back in the day we used to have so many designers around there was a glut on the market and they couldn't make any decent money, same with programmers, although programmers could always get paid pretty well. Times have changed.
