      They're not. They entered UK airspace for a number of reasons:

      (1) The UK is a US ally.

      (2) They want to test responsiveness of detection systems in UK airspace and see how far they can push limits.

      (3) It is natural for strategic planning to estimate the enemy.

        Russia has not crossed into UK airspace but has flown close to the boundary. They didn't make UK, the two Russian bombers were heading towards UK airspace when they were intercepted. So either, UK's being very wary, or Russia's trying to bug the British ministry.

        Wondering which airspace they had flown through & were in, being so close to the UK, & had they permission to fly there?
