PS: I am an Apprentice Electrician myself. That guy was a fuckin fool to do that especially since he had training and was an Apprentice according to the artical.
Study that photo, the kid was a dead man as soon as he got up there. The carriage is between power lines. Thats fucken dumb, beyond dumb.

No. Not with that kind of current. The whole line would have to be turned off to touch it. Thats even in the code. To take the guy down from there they probably had to turn off everything within 3 blocks of that area to insure safety or wait for a tech to arrive to turn off the hazardous lines around the area which of course would take longer.
He could have been saved possibly in the first 1 minute assuming he released within the 1st second of contact with the live wire, but if the current kept running through him there is little chance of survival. He died instantly.Last edited by AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE; 08-07-2008, 06:22 PM.

A couple years ago, I came home one night and saw a young couple get run over on a crosswalk, just one block from my house. I ran home, grabbed a camera, and came out and shot a bunch of photos of the couple lying in the road, then receiving first aid from the EMT's, and finally--finally--the cops showing up and breathalyzing the car's driver.
I gave my card to a friend of one of the victims, and six months later I received a thank you card from her as my photos were a decisive factor in getting the driver's insurance company to settle with the victims (btw, the driver wasn't drunk).
My point is, if there's an accident, and you have a camera at hand, then go ahead and shoot photos. At worst you're documenting the tragedy, and your photos may be of use to the accident investigators, the police, the victims, etc. There's no immorality in being a passive observer and merely recording a tragic incident. Think of war photographers. Or Weegee.Comment

This makes me very sad. My husband is an electrician and we have 5 kids and live in Dallas, Texas. This hits VERY close to home for me!!! I worry every day about getting a call that something bad has happened. I pray for this mans family!

Just goes to show you that there's a lot of ways you can go. His heart probably stopped the instant he made contact. That is truly a bad scene.
We own a sign company and from the looks of the set up, it appears the driver or operator could be at fault because they could have set the truck up in another position to stay clear of those lines or he was clear and rotated the ladder/boom while not paying attention to the lines around him.
If you look close at the second image, you can see the ladder/boom is in between 2 separate lines. I think he just forgot his surrounds and got stung.
We always set up away from the lines, at least 20' and if that is not possible, then we rent a bucket lift. From the looks of all those lines, I would have rented the lift.
