I agree. Most parents influence their kids taste in music and other trends however, in general, radio, television, and their friends are a bigger influence. My parents like classic rock but my teen brothers and sisters don't. I liked classic rock but my daughter doesn't. It's only a small minority of people that make it to the age of 30 and still like what their parents did.

Once Kiss makes it to the Oldies channel, you're kids won't wanna listen. What teen wants to listen to the Oldies. A lot of college freshman today think of Pearl Jam as old. It's ancient to them.

So maybe every generation one quarter (at most) of the kids who's parents liked classic rock survive to like classic rock. Then 1/4 of theirs, 1/4 of theirs, etc. After three generations you have 1/64 of the original fan base. It drops faster after that.

I mean come on, my grandfather thought Glenn Miller was timeless. He still does. But be real. Some of the grandchildren of those that liked Glenn Miller may still like Glenn Miller but it's a small minority.

In that sense, maybe Glenn Miller is timeless but how many CD's is he selling in a year? Aerosmith is timeless like Glenn Miller is timeless. Speaking of which, Aerosmith is playing with Kid Rock here next month. I think I'll go. I'll skip the Glenn Miller dance though. I'm too young.

BTW --- TONS of younguns today listen to classic rock and love it. I'm at that age where I know a lot of single moms, and I've seen countless times where the mom is singing along to some Led Zep tune and her kid says (with surprise) "Mom,.... YOU know the words to THAT SONG???" as if to say how could you know the words to a cool song?, as if the song just got released or something.

Sure, lots of the less magnetic classic rockers will fade eventually, but the biggies, the giants, they will remain timeless and forever loved by many. Not all, but many. Why? Simple, because people that love this music love it a lot, like forever alot. Not just 'this year' alot, but forever.

Comparing Led Zep to duke ellington is really an empty argument. Duke's music is not rock, and for many on this planet rock is here to stay till the end.

There's been 'wiggers' all through history but the rap wiggerness started in the south. 2 Live crew brought them out in a major way thanks to the frat-boy raunch rap. Not to mention the shared appreciation for gaudy cars. Northern and east coast wiggers didn't really develop in large numbers until the Wu-Tang era. There were always some, but they were just backpackers.

Sir Mix-A-Lot, 2 Live Crew, Geto Boys, NWA, Magic Mike and others were just so much bigger down south than up north that it caught on faster with a bigger multi-racial audience.

Of course, he'll have $100 million to roll around in, and he probably won't give a fuck that he's not hugely popular anymore. And nobody sells 25 million records without being slighly talented, it's not like someone else is writing those lyrics. He's easily the most talented rapper around, up there with Rakim, Biggy, Big Daddy Kane, RZA, Genius, Last Emperor, MC Juice, Chino XL, etc. When I first started listening to Eminem I did a google search and got 0 results.. I actually wrote to AllMusic.com (who I write for) telling them to please add an entry for him, because he's going to be huge.. Nobody even knew what he looked like at that point.. As much as people hate him, he came up through the underground rap scene and absolutely killed it.. Nobody could touch him in a battle.

What did he say.. "I'm not crazy I just say shit that's crazy to crazy people to make 'em believe I'm crazy so they can relate to me.." He TELLS his fans he's not a killer, not crazy at all actually.. If you listened to his first album "313" he's talking about God and settling down with his daughter and shit..
