    How Many Are Signing Up?

    How many of you patriots that can read, write, add and have a highschool diploma, are drug free, and without a criminal record will be signing up in the military for the war on terrorists and the war on Iraq?

    Or, is the criteria to high?

                      All branches require a Highschool diploma or a GED. If they do not meet quotas they sometimes will relax that requirement.

                              No Adult Criminal Record (juvenile record has been sealed)

                              Can't sign up for the military. Already done my time years ago in the first war with Iraq while most of you were getting ready for kindergarten.

                                  They do random testing and at all hours of the day and night, so if you are a user, you stand a good chance of being caught and many are.

                                  The last I knew about policy: If you are caught you will recieve and automatic discharge of less than honorable conditions.

                                  If you confess to using, before being caught, you will be placed into treatment, a one shot deal.

                                      I have a degree in international relations / NGO political groups. So techincally terrorism. But I broke my arm mountian biking a few years ago so even if I wanted to be an intelligence analyst I couldn't...because of a three inch titanium plate in my arm.

                                      Because that little piece of Ti would stop me from what...reading satellite photos?

                                                              The qualifications listed at the beginning of this post are circa 1980's.

                                                              You can now have the following conditions/problems & still get in:

                                                              - Criminal Record (excluding "felons")
                                                              - Homosexuals (don't ask, don't tell...no peaking in the shower)
                                                              - Overweight (yup now they send you to fat camp)
                                                              - Mental Problems (yup...most recruiters give you a pass)
                                                              - Ability to Read & write (not needed, some recruiters pass anyways)
                                                              - Drug problems (Recruiters will tell you which special tea to drink)

                                                                                          I feel bad for the few respectable men & women we have in there who are actually taking advantage of the GI BILL, they have to train around abunch of fucking losers.

                                                                                          And this "a few bad recruiters" are you kidding me? They are all corrupt now, and i've talked to/know about 50 of em.

                                                                                          I straight up told the ones calling me i was fucked up in the head, on drugs & 100lbs over-weight...& they still begged me to come in.

                                                                                          Just ask those "few" recruiters how much they make per new recruit.

                                                                                                  I read an article a while back that said that right after Pearl Harbor the number of voluntary enlistments skyrocketed. It then said that after 9/11 the number of voluntary enlistments dropped.

                                                                                                  If this is true, it says a lot about all of the loud mouths that are always yelling for war. They want war, they just want someone else to fight it.

                                                                                                              I think that you do not understand the process, recruiters do not have the authority to enlist recruits. There is testing that is done that they do not have any control over. There are physicals to be passed that they do not have any control over. There are screeners that screen your background that they do not have any control over. Recruiters do not swear you in when you take the oath. Even after you have been sworn in the process is still not over, but if you can cut the mustard your chances of being allowed to stay in are pretty good.

                                                                                                              Recruiters are the lowest cog in the wheel. Recruiters are not paid by the number of bodies they recruit.

                                                                                                              About four years ago I had a Recruiter shit canned for lying to prospects, even though I have been inactive since '81.

                                                                                                              In addition the military only provides allowances for two children, the last that I was aware, but this may have changed. As for on base housing few are lucky enough to get it. There has always been and still is a major shortage of on base housing.

                                                                                                                      My friends are retired Generals, Colonels, Lt Colonels, Majors and Captains, most of which I served with in combat, a couple of them I served with in the Korean War, but most from the Vietnam war.

                                                                                                                      They are not druggies and wiggers, so they don't play on your playground.

                                                                                                                                                  I didn't see the article but it is probably true, as the military has been having a difficult time making its quotas.

                                                                                                                                                  I was not in favor of implementing an all volunteer force in the first place, for a several reasons.

                                                                                                                                                                  I think alot of it has to do with what units you are attached to. I did 6 years as a medic and when I was in a pure support company working in a hospital there were alot of problems with the attitudes of the people serving with the unit, and some of them should not have been there. When I got attached to more combat oriented units like an 5/17th AirCav unit in Korea and others the type of people changed dramtically.

                                                                                                                                                                  The different units are just different types of enviroments, when I was at the hospital there was little discipline and we basically worked our shift and were free to do what we wanted... no formations, no team building elements...

                                                                                                                                                                  While in the Cav and esp in Korea it is run much tighter with daily formations and accountability.

                                                                                                                                                                  After 9/11 I did contact a recuiter about reenlisting, I have all the paperwork ready to go, but I am hesitant about leaving my civilian life behind, where when I was 17 it was not that big of a deal...

                                                                                                                                                                      Don't know about the recruiting methods, but I used to be a plumber for base housing at Pt.Mugu and all I know is that there were an awful lot of oversized trucks and oversized dogs owned by the majority of families that lived on base. One dude even had a wolf as a pet and was so proud of how deadly it was due to the fact that it was unable to bark...

                                                                                                                                                                      anyways.... Redneck... unfortunately, my experience tells me Yes. Lot's of guys there instead of jail, etc.

                                                                                                                                                                      and on the other side of the coin... The Seabees from Hueneme were too cool.

                                                                                                                                                                                  When I was in, the majority of people I went through basic with were "trash". Too many off them couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time. I was in MI (I know, oxymoron) and was always suprised by the people I encountered. As a white guy, I was in the minority amoung enlisted men. Most of the blacks I encountered were the worst racistists and least educated people. There is no incentive for someone that has a chance at a career in the private sector to serve in the military.
