A lot of book knowledge and correlating obscure materials in a even more unreachable obscure manor is not a sign of high intelligence... Taking obscure materials and correlating them in a manor to ground ones own views in a manor that is easily understandable by the appropriate audience is a better indication of intelligence... DQ.

The left/right is a false dichotomy, since both of them requires a centralised powerfull state to take the individual freedom away.
A more logical split in politics is between "collectives" (socialists, religious fundamentalists, statists) and "individuals". The collectives needs bigger and bigger state for their form of freedom to work, while the individual need a small state or no state for his/her freedom to work.
Before people get this, then we are stuck with choosing between two sides (left/right) which are basicly the same, and individual freedom will continue to erode

I did, and of course other people have called me a whore but not always with the same intentions and concept of what the word means. I sell a form of sexual access to me online, so I am a sex worker. When I say I'm a whore I don't mean that I'm a "sell-out" having compromised my ethics or morals. I am an example of a whore who defies the stereotype of someone who's been forced or coerced into sex work or has no other options available. I am proud of my work and think using the word provokes people who read my blog(s), surf and/or join my site(s) to rethink some of the stereotypes people have about whores.
Noam Chomsky should have a field day with what I imagine is a limited view of what one word can mean, or an assumption that it always means/is intended to bring to mind the worst connotation of the word (whore).Comment

In my experience, ideologues of any stripe are rarely impressive people. They might be well read, well educated, and well spoken, but their irrational dedication to what are often soundly disproven ideas (like communism) make them no more impressive than religious fanatics, in my view. If your mind is not open to new information which may point away from your deeply cherished ideals and principles, I don't believe you can accurately be labeled as "smart."
On the issue of porn, I frankly am continually amazed at the number of people who seem to believe that humiliation and degradation are bad things in the context of sexuality. Many women AND men get off on being humiliated and degraded sexually, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that (anybody ever heard of dominatrix?). People like Chomsky suffer from the same thing many on the political right suffer from -- a bone chilling fear of personal liberty.Comment
