Some dating sites are scam mostly, but some are legit enough.
I know some young (under 28) girls who are in those badoo's and have sex with like 3 different guys per week, so there's lots going on, but, none of these relationships stick forever.
I am 40+, I dated one year a woman I found using a legit dating site (will not tell what one, but they do TV ads in europe, and logging into women account sI seen the man/women ratio is 1:3 or better)... incredibly she was into goa (psy trance) festivals too, at age over 40, that was super accidental luck, I think, so ti was an easy match for me.
After broke with her (she was eventually too crazy), I used same dating site and... I could get out with another girl (10 years younger than me this time) in matter of a week or 2... it ended into nothing as I had not the patience...
But I mean, if your profile is cool (pics, text - most profiles are boring, contain grammar errors...) and you have a strategy (i.e: target older woman who are there for real business, rather than younger who is there just for compliments shower), it can work, honestly.
However, I can have same or more success with plain telecommunication systems, not made for dating (but I could not find any women in BBS's at the time, it was all male...). Since 3 months I date a woman I catched with a simple messenger (wechat) using the function "show who is nearby". First she deleted me (they always do), then, I re-asked connection and insisted the right way, now the issue is reversed, she wish to marry I think.
The main issue for me it is to explain what's my job. I first say it's internet and such, that does it at start, unless she is also into it and can do questions and check sites. Then they get pieces of reality with time. They all dislike, but no one broke for that very reason (including my first wife, 15 years ago...), it is more a pre-emptive paranoia of mine. Well cams it is not as "badly perceived" as porn director perhaps. I still think this job sucks for personal relations. Ah by the way I once dated a cam girl (Romanian, of course), it was no any different than dating a civilian girl, except, she shown me pics of cocks she received from customers, inviting me to laugh with her at these, that was indeed weird.
So yes, dating sites work, but, even plain facebook's or messengers can do it, it is more a matter of you.
