I did not know they were that rare, I assumed they were more common than blue eyes

If you are Middle Eastern, Spanish, Brazilian or North African decent, there is a higher likelihood of green eyes running in your family.

That is very strange to me, again I really imagined that most of non southern Europeans have green eyes. Huge mistake by me... ?

Not only that, but since having blue eyes is a recessive trait (meaning that for you to have blue eyes then you must have inherited the allele for it from both your mother and father) then both your parents are descended from that same ancestor.
