TransMit OS X users a question for ya

New user on OS X and Transmit here. I'm having a problem when I try to upload a directory that also has sub directories/files. It seems once it gets to the subdirectory it fails and gives me an error message saying

"Could not open local file. It is likely that you do not have read or write permissions for it. Check transcript for more information." Ok, is there some stupid setting in on my user account or do you think this is just within the transmit program? Been causing me problems all afternoon and I'm stumped.

    Any ideas?

Sounds like a server problem to me, contact your hosting. Transmit works great over here

Transmit is garbage. I had constant trouble with it. Honestly I haven't found a good FTP client yet. The most passable I have found yet is Captain FTP http://captainftp.xdsnet.de/
        I like pie.

Just sounds like your permissions are messed up. I use Transmit & have never had that prob.

I get the same error if I try downloading a file from the folder that the host uploaded when they tested. Do you think this would be a transmit problem or possibly just some permissions deal on my specific account on the laptop?

No, doesn't sound like a transmit problem at all. imo. I've never come across a similar problem like that without it being a permissions prob on the actual server

I figured it out. For some odd reason certain files had no access for permissions. I had to manually get info and edit them one by one. Talk about a pain in the ass.

I tried doing it to the parent folder, but no luck as it must not pass the permissions onto the files and other folders.

I use CyberDuck. Works good here.

A girl once told me "Give me 8 inches and make it HURT".

Transmit rocks, I have been using it for years. Check the preferences, you can set it doing the permissions for you. Not the safest imho but can be done.

the permissions were on some older windows folders that I moved over so it wasn't anything to do with Transmit. It was just that I discovered the program while I was trying to upload.

Transmit works great. Why is Cyberduck better? I have a copy of Forklift from a MacPromo thing that I haven't tried yet, but I hear it's pretty good too.

Check the permissions of the folder you are trying to upload. Or try copying the contents to a different folder. Is it only when you upload a folder with subdirs?

The permissions seem to be fucked on some folders that I copied over from windows. specifically a "web" folder. It would be that big of a problem if I could figure out how to pass the permissions through the entire folder + subfolders instead of having to do each file on by one manually.

although i really miss something like flashfxp for my mac - nothing matches that imho
