How do you promote paysites? what are the issues with promo tools?

I don't need any promo tools, I use a 1 minute clip with a text link, or alternatively a large thumb linking directly to the tour... The only thing I need is one FHG and I import the clips and use one of the thumbs on the gallery.

I never understood this industry's fascination with banners... Surfers are trained to avoid them.

quantity and quality both are important but i stay with the quality of the pictures!

Well I remember back in my surfin days I hardly clicked a banner unless it was something extremely, extremely original.

That's basically how I do it. However, one of my sponsors I only promote via a skyscraper banner and its one of my best selling things. I just tossed it up there over 6 months ago to see and will never move it.
