Some people in Iran really think thier standing military could hold off the united states military. Iraq said the same shitand Iraq had a larger Military than Iran. Difference though is United States would not stay in Iran ...

United States would just blow apart thier infrastructure, kill all the government leaders then leave and probably have it all done in less than 2 weeks.

What makes you think the US blowing apart Iran would affect oil prices?
If Iraq is any indication, taking control of the oil fields will only result in higher prices, not lower.

South Korea is doing pretty good for itself, the North not so good. As for Vietnam, their wartime General has stated that they were a beaten force after Tet and would have done anything for peace. Then they saw Cronkite on the TV claiming the war was lost and realized they could win by waiting out the American public; they let the U.S. press win it for them.

Most people I meet whether here or in other parts of the world are nice people.

But the people who seek and gain political power are a very different breed. Their motivations aren't the same as you or I.

So "no" WE aren't trying to consolidate our stranglehold. And WE didn't choose to do any of the things that were mentioned. The government did.

And you better believe if you even THINK about overthrowing the U.S. govt., your home will be surrounded by troops and you and your family will be dead...and the press will report that you were some kind of militant nutjob, or worse a "terrorist".

Korea

I seem to recall Macarthur cutting into Incheon and advancing like wildfire deep into North Korea. One of the greatest military maneuvers of all time.

As Macarthur came closer to the Chinese border the US government greatly limited his military options hindering his advance. Politicians fucked that war up not the military.

The same thing with Vietnam.

Study the battle of Iwo Jima or some of those other Pacific battles and you'll see what the problem was in regard to Japan.

We have already seen substantial demand destruction at $140+.

China already subsidizes oil because of the high price.

They really don't need all that many soldiers... A very effective plan would be to have spotters inside Iran and use surgical strikes to take out all the core leaders followed up by massive bombings to take out the military and infrastructure. The US has shown that they are very effective at the last step, it's the first one they often fail at.

Iran sells it's oil to China, it doesn't sell it's oil to United States. Iranian oil doesn't benifit the United States in any way. If Iran stoped selling Oil today, it would force China to source other countries to provide it oil.

We currently have contracts with the Saudi, and even Venezuela.

Lastly, I know we think of ourselves as a great power, but the Russians nor China would want us to stop Iran from selling them oil. We would have to this on our own, and while we can bomb them. China and Russia may actually step into this, and tell us no you can't.
