WTF - $4 BILLION In An Hour...

China's Alibaba breaks Singles Day record as sales surge - BBC News

Alibaba said more than $1bn was spent within eight minutes of midnight.
Within the first hour, it had made $3.9bn (£2.bn) in sales, almost double the amount spent in the same time period of the event last year.
    That is just nuts...

      Well, China's market is HUGE.

AliBaba = The Amazon of China without the diversification.

If you're looking for a stock to buy, check out Amazon.

      Why?

      1 word: AWS

Not really, alibaba is b2b wholesale marketplace. And not sure how would they know how much sales that generates, site is mostly just for contact, deals are made not through the site. I do some business there and have no idea how could they know sales amount.

Whole article sounds like they are talking about aliexpress or something, but why say otherwise?

Alibaba is not selling anything, it is just a place where various companies from all over the world list their products and contacts. Imagine craiglist where only wholesale companies post their ads.
That article must talk about aliexpress or something else. While they sell knockoffs they also sell everything else (no names, original local names etc).

Although its competitors offered attractive discounts, Fangting Sun, China-based analyst at market research firm Euromonitor International said that consumers' attention was still focused on Alibaba's online marketplace Tmall.com.

That is what I already posted. Yet the article does not (or I missed) even mention it.
