The problem of any Government being bought is that the buyers will force Governments to make them richer. Leaving the poor well behind and eventually the lower middle classes. Then as jerkules points out we become ruled by an elite few. Back to the days when kings and queens ruled, or the very very wealthy, ending in revolution.

That won't happen in a Democracy, the people will vote out the "bought" politicians, maybe for a bunch of left wing clowns like Corbyn. By the time it does happen, China will be the number one power in the world. Because the 1% decided it was cheaper to have goods made in the Third world, ruled by dictators, than at home by their own countrymen.

Leaders like Merkel are very keen on bringing in Third World workers, to undercut the wages of Germans. The falling population excuse doesn't hold water.

The UK just witnessed the Chinese leader being begged for more trade, so that some of the business the West has handed over to them, comes back. Does this stupidity help the people who once relied on manufacturing for a job, or the 1%?

Look around you and see what was made in the US. You might be gone for a while. And if you believe China won't start taking what's left. You're in for a surprise.

Are Governments ruled by an elite few, protecting those at the bottom. Other than giving them just enough to ward off starvation?
