Anyone else making their way to Germany for the biggest beer drinking festival in the history of all mankind!?!?! I'll be there from September 19th - October 3rd.
Originally posted by Equinox I'm leaving GER on Sept. 9th - but even if I were there, I would not go. 5 Million liter beer in a week, that consumption exceeds my threshold
I swear, the last time I was there, I was drinking litres of beer from 10AM - 4AM every single day...God bless Deutschland!

Sorry to say that, but after 16 years of living here, I don't like Deutschland no more. Prefer the US of A
Germany is just too fucking ... don't know how to put it. People are not as friendly as in other parts of the world, arrogant and self-centered. Not saying it's not like it in the US, I think like you simply don't feel it all the time.
Well here in Southern Ontario, Canada we have our own little version of Oktoberfest in a city called Kitchener.. nowhere near as insane as Germany but Kitchener has a rich German heritage and all these old German halls open up and the city gets all decorated in German themes and lots of late parties, lots of beer and lots of great food. I recall going a few times in my college days and to this day I've yet to figure out how the hell I got back to my dorm.

Actually, being from Detroit, my family has ventured there a few times for the festivities...good stuff!

I don't think you'd like the US much then either. Its pretty much the same there. Hard to explain but as someone who grew up in the US and now lives in Europe, Americans can be just as self-centered and arrogant as Germans/French/English whatever. I think the key is to find a nice town somewhere (anywhere really, Europe, the US, wherever) and settle down.
As for Oktoberfest, we are planning to head for Hamburg in the beginning of November for our wedding anniversary. I'd imagine it will depend on how HUGE I am by then though.
