It was a joint account that was used exclusively for our venture. He didn't sound drunk any of the times I spoke with him before or right after we formed our partnership. It wasn't until about 30 days later that I became aware of certain things. I had him sign a very good contract, however, you obviously can't get blood from a stone. And yes, he is out of Arizona.
