perhaps you remember my post of "What should I do in Spain?" a couple weeks ago?
well I did up Spain. Including getting locked inside castle gates in Xativa and had to be rescued by the policia LOL. yes, Spain had the best adventures, too many to name, but the castle one took the cake. The castle was closed that day and it was raining and ominous outside, but a Russian couple came up there and just happened to have a bottle of champagne which they offered to have with me. So we drank champagne on the castle road on a cliff, overlooking the town, in the rain. They left in their car and by the time we did, the gates were closed and locked. we walked to the only hotel in the area that called the police to rescue us. They smirked when they saw my car behind the bars. My spanish isn't great so all I could do was shrug my shoulders.
We ended up staying atop the cliff at 'the castle hotel' because we didn't want to drive all the way back to the coast. they had only one room left, for us, where bats flew outside and we ate by candelabra light. tripppppy. Next day we toured one of the biggest castles in all of Spain. Turns out a Lord died in that castle the very day we were locked in, the anniversary of his death. yea, my life is not boring.
I had one of the best adventures in my traveling years-and my daughter did too. The laughs were plenty, the memories countless
thanks to all who gave ideas, we did some, will save the others for our next trip back... which we will surly do!
ps-Spain obviously does not realize I am not the best driver. The tiny winding cliffside roads made for one car not two with trucks zooming by me had me driving white knuckled. my daughter got a kick out of my freaking out. and the tiny streets in tons of little towns where I attempted 20 point turn arounds because the tomtom kept saying 'turn around when possible' and driving up 60 degree inclines with a manual stick shift car was hilarious in and of itself. ugh. LOL priceless!
