The republican party isn't going to go away any time soon, but depending on the outcome of this next election they may find themselves having to make a major pivot. If it is the worst case scenario for republicans and Hillary wins the White House and the democrats take back the house, senate or both, the republican party will once again be in major flux. They've been very ineffective with their house and senate leadership and if they lose the White House again it will be a bad omen for them.
The reality is that the number of white voters in this country are on the decline while the number of Hispanic voters is growing fast. More and more people are registering as independents. The republicans need to find a way to connect with those minority voters. They were trying to do that recently, but Trump came along and pretty much destroyed all that work. So, if they lose this election and things go badly they are going to have to take a long look at themselves and determine how they can appeal to a changing electorate.
Of course they could end up holding on to the house and senate and win the White House. If that happens it will likely be more of the same from them.
