True, but things are different now. The republican party of today isn't want it used to be, and has never been as far-right as they are today. They've never had groups like the Tea Party to have to try to satisfy. And at the same time, they've never had such "far-left" (i.e., popular, i.e., normal) issues like gay rights and climate change to fight with.

In my opinion, today's republican party is just flat-out wrong on so many things. And even if they used to be right / positive / fair, they've been corrupted by big business, lobbyists and special interest groups.
