Simply tell the checkout girl that you HAD your bag for life on you on the way to the shop, but it disintegrated before you arrived. Its a 'Bag for Life' so they have to replace it free of charge...
Personally I think shops should be banned from giving bags to customers. I remember a time when we always had a carrier bag or bags when we went to the shops.
The way we abuse the planet, makes me feel many think there's another one waiting to replace it. When this one's no longer fit for purpose.
most places started charging for bags years ago here. at first you'd see a lot of people using the reusable bags but as time went on less and less seemed to use them and these days it seems most people don't bother and just pay the 5 cents per bag. so now the stores are making money off selling the bags and nothing changes.
you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..
I was wondering if I wanted to be pedantic about it whether I could return that bag.
I mean, I purchased the bag so I am legally entitled to return the bag if it gets a rip in it right?
The shop would then need to replace or refund the purchase?
I now have to keep my bag for life with me in case I pop to the shops.
STFU no one wants to marry you so you'll never have a bag for life ...
Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.
In EU they charge you 20C per each bag and they ask first if you need it. In US like Walmart, they just keep bagging one item per plastic bag, ppl don't mind since they are all free. I get sick when I see 10 items in 10 plastic bags ppl carry in their carts... When I bring my own bag, cashier looks at me like I am from a different planet...

I've used my reusable bags for years, long before it turned into a legal issue with any cities, an ex got me into it. Frankly, I love it. The reusable bags work better, they hold more items, and they create less final waste. And they save $.50-1.00 at the grocery store (that's what they charge here.)
Whether or not others are using them, I can't really say, I have not paid attention.

if the stores charged 50 cents a bad i'd imagine people would try harder. i'm going to try to get back into using the reusable bags again. no reason not to really. though i do like to have some of the plastic bags around to put my cats used litter in.

problem with these bags for life is by the time I get home, all the cunting shopping has spilled out of them... with the old carrier bags I just tied the tops. I can't even do that though with the new style bags that are 5p each. And nope I don't drive like a lunatic when I have food shopping.... empty boot just makes the bags slide, add in roundabouts etc and they topple over and spill every time.
Because then you left home specifically to go to the shops and then go home again.
How old do you think I am?
We still had impulse buying in those days. Not as much as todays consumer society, if it's so normal, carry a small fold up bag in your pocket, or pay the money.
