Has More Money Been Made Or Lost On The Internet?

Not talking about porn. For every Facebook, Twitter, Amazon etc there are a ton of start-ups with millions invested in them that never make a dime, hell Amazon itself still operates in the red regularly? So has more investment money been lost on Internet ventures than has been made?
I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

Dunno about the OP's original question, but I'm thankful I didn't pump a lot of investment money into the first company I started back in the day.

Before the internet existed - I started a local BBS called Tri-City Online Classifieds. It was basically a combination of craigslist and kijiji - but in a BBS format. The idea was good...but obviously the BBS venue was extremely limited. We had all the right ingredients except the one that mattered most - a big audience.

My investment was fairly minimal at the time (BBSes were relatively cheap to set up and operate) - so I didn't lose much when it failed. And years later when kijiji and craiglist became huge and successful on the web - I shrugged and sighed a little.

Maybe it would have been different if you had invested more.

I've read that VCs only expect to make back their money on a fraction of a percent of the investments they make. The occasional biggie covers the "losses" from the hundreds of other failed startups.

Google's success would pay for a lot of failure.

                              True dat.

Perhaps just slightly ahead of the curve and didn't see foresee the web.

I don't know about others who had similiar ideas at the time...but I doubt I'm alone on this. I didn't copy it...just dreamed it up and thought it seemed like a good idea at the time.
