My time wasnt that great. The heat was rough........
I started at 4:45 am, rolled in at 8:30pm
My avg speed was 16.5 mph (including hills)
My crusing speed around 20mph...
I had to wake up at 3:30 am to get to the startline.
After I crossed the FInish line I went out to eat. Got back home and into bed after Midnight.
Couldnt sleep. I was still jacked up and in ride mode. Had to take a sleeping pill and watch a Van Dam movie to sleep. I was up almost 24 hours!

Best advice is to wait until the 2009 models start hitting the market. Which is only a couple of months away. You'll get massive savings on 2008 models. Or even now, 'cause a lot of bike shops do sales during the Tour De France. Specialized is a great brand. Best frames around. Made in the USA, so I imagine they're a bit cheaper there than they are here.26 + 6 = 1Comment

I live in Portland.
The ride ended in Porltand and started in Seattle.
The night before the event My wife drove me to Seattle and we stayed in a hotel. Woke up at 3:am to start by 4:30 in Seattle.
For most they took buses back to Seattle after the ride. There are busses that leave every 30 minutes for this event that take you back to Seattle where the ride started.
Also a lot of people stayed in Portland after the ride in Hotels, etc and found their own transport back. Family, train etc. But most people took the provided busses back to Seattle where they started.
It was VERY well organized.
Food, support, city support from every city/town we rode through. From the local Highschools to the Police closing roads, etc. Food sponsored by WHole Foods, REI, Cliff Bar, Cytomax, Vitamin Water, and many others.
Great event.

That is very cool, good work. I didn't know there were so many riders around here. I haven't even done a century in quite some time. 200 is awesome, congrats man! And you think that was hot, try riding in Phoenix in the summer time lolPaulk @ CCBill.com | icq 248615940Comment

Come up here to the Northwest sometime. Its great riding weather and beautiful.
IT seems there is a BIG organized ride event up in the area every month. Sometimes twice in the summer peak times.
There is a Summit to Coast ride coming up next week. I believe its a Century. From Mt. Hood to the Coast. Beautiful ride. I wont be doing this one, still resting.
But in August there is one called the "Portland Century" that is 100 miles with some huge fucking hills. Its beautiful ride. Starts in downtown Portland and loops back to Downtown portland via the hills and Country.
Great ride.
There are tons of great rides here. IF you are an active person Portland has to be the best place around to live. From our cool climate to our ability to be in the Mountains or Coast in under 2 hours. Its great.
Tons of organized events here. From cycling to Running events, to Water events like windsurfing, we have some of the best events in the world.
And no sales tax out here.Last edited by boneprone; 07-17-2008, 09:50 AM.

Hey Socks,
Go down to Dukes or Sporting Life (the Bike shop one just north of Eglinton on Young) and tell them what you need and you'll be sorted. There are a few others out there in Bloor West, etc.
I would honestly say though it depends on what kind of riding you want to do. If you live in the city a road bike is going to be no better than a light mountain bike with slicks on it and then you can put your knobbies on if and when you want to ride trails (and there are a lot in Toronto). If you really want to ride a road bike I think you need to be out of the city where you aren't stopping at lights all the time.
Alternatively if you just want to get into shape and like to pedal and not run (I'm the same) you could try spin classes at a gym, I hear they are really good.
But as BP says, for a road bike, size is the MOST important factor. So make sure that you go to a shop and ask some questions. And also frame brand doesn't really matter at all, materials are a much greater concern in the long run.Comment

Oh yeah! Spin Classes are great workouts! Thats what I do mainly during the off season. Winter and Fall months when its too wet to ride. Here in Oregon thats a lot of months out of the year. Ive spent tons of time in Spin Classes.Hey Socks,

They are usually free classes if you are a member at 24 hour fitness. Those classes alone are worth the montly dues to join the gym. Great classes.

You should work in the tourism deprtment, I'm all set for a trip up there now lol. I've always wanted to visit the north east, I'll surely have to bring a bike when I do.
Our "off season" is only about 4 months and the other months of the year are just perfect.
There is a sweet century in Santa Barbara next month but it's racing season so I won't make it. I sure do love riding on the coast though!
congrats again!Paulk @ CCBill.com | icq 248615940Comment

Hey Bone, congrats.
How do you train in the winter?
I ask because I quit smoking a couple of months ago and am really interested in doing some intense cardio, possibly even training for doing things like the race you just did.
I can't decide whether or not to buy a spin bike or a regular upright exercise bike, which one do you "real bikers" use for your indoor training?sig too bigComment

Intense cardio will make you feel better than anything I guarantee it. I would recommend buying a regular bicycle, there is nothing better than getting outside for a nice ride on a nice day. Further they have things called trainers that you can buy so you can ride your regular bicycle inside whenever you want. Most people who race and what not have trainers for bad weather days.Hey Bone, congrats.

Congrats on the quitting smoking too! I've been racing bikes off and on for 14 years and I just quit smoking a month ago, I can't wait to see my times this year!Paulk @ CCBill.com | icq 248615940Comment
